She turned left in front of us while driving straight in an intersection. The truck did NOTHING to help. In contrast, years ago, my Tesla prevented me going into an intersection when a red light runner was coming from the far right. And that was a 2019 with the old hardware and software. Am I sure a Tesla would prevent this? 90% yes. Certainly a Waymo would. AEB triggers warnings on occasion when I'm coming up behind a car too fast for its taste and far from crashing, but in this case, nothing.

I absolutely would never buy anything other than a Tesla today, if I didn't need a truck, and obviously, their truck is a shitshow.

I happen to be a retired pilot. We had to take a checkride…...a proficiency check once a year for obvious reasons. 30-40% of that training and check was devoted to electronics and avionics failing. Electronics fail and should not be relied on 100%….ever. An airplane is required to have moderate redundancy for all its systems. I do not believe car manufacturers have that requirement. Use the electrical safety systems as supplemental, not concrete dependence on them is my best advice.

So is every accident we see with a Rivian where someone is t-boned a AEB failure? Accidents happen. Are you even sure AEB is SUPPOSED to work with drivers coming at you from the side?

Tesla has had many years to develop their software. And yes, it can help avoid collisions. I’ve seen the Wham Bam Tesla Cam videos.

What made you think you were in a Tesla? What did you not realize about Rivian’s software being less developed? Why didn’t you react and take over?

Makes me think it was too fast for you to react. Happens to the best drivers. I assume you weren’t looking away from the road. Even FSD Teslas get bent in accidents and occasionally cause them.
