I know V2H capability was announced by Rivian a while ago citing both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles having the ability. But to this day, the functionality does not exist. Any thoughts or insight on if Rivian will actually one day enable this functionality for existing vehicles?

I think it will, NEMA just published their standards a few days ago. I think most companies (vehicles and equipment) were waiting for standards before putting things out.

There are a lot of companies working on bi-directional chargers. Rivian has confirmed the hardware is in the vehicles already.

This was one of many reasons we bought our Rivian. We were intending to use it to power our remote cabin but we can't wait any longer and are now installing a rooftop PV array. Probably will cost about the same as the H2H equipment & installation and without the range loss from powering the cabin. I wouldn't be surprised if V2H availability is still 2 or more years out

Hope you are right

Wow! Sorry it played out that way. Could be 2 years or never.

The Rivian bi-directional charger has been in development for a couple years now. Hopefully it sees the light of day.

I have a meeting with Dcbel about their Ara bidirectional charger on Tuesday. Their product is out but isn't yet compatible with Rivian - hopefully via a software update soon.

Buy a Generac (or other home backup generator), it's proven, reliable and available now.

I wouldn't V2H with my Gen1 R1T (or Telas) until it was out and proven for years. Will all the quality issues including battery both primary and 12V wouldn't trust it personally.

Timing is probably coming around R2-R3 as that's their priority with V2H secondary for sure.

Hey Rivian. Get the V2H working so I can sell my Lightning and replace it with an R1T. Probably a decent amount of people would choose the R1T over the Lightning if it had V2H or even just a 240v plug in the bed capable of at least 7.2kw of power like the Lightning.

lol. I’ve 4 powerwalls thanks. Looking for winter prolongation off grid and TOU maximizing. Powerwalls are a way better option than generator if you’ve got TOU billing.

I agree, run my house off of Powerwall every day from 4pm-9pm instead of paying the 52 cent winter rate and 59 cent summer rate per kWh.

Our Lightning is a big Powerwall for the most part. Runs our house from early morning until close to midnight every day we are in town. Even the 5 ton AC unit (inverter/true variable). Both of our EVs charge from Midnight to 6 am for .02 per kw in the winter and .03 per kw in the winter. From 4 pm to 8 pm is our rate is expensive. Poor man's solar system if you ignore the price of the Lightning.
