Ask for details why???
It was just part of the 8 step process on line which gives you the quote. Immediately sent a message to my insurance agent for a quote when I say the Rivian quote. Will try to call Nationwide on Tuesday, but I do remember checking with them in the past for quotes and they were always much higher than Mercury. Mercury however, hates Tesla's as they charge high rates for them, even though I've been with them for well over 15 years and never had a claim. So I'm worried they may not like the Rivian either. Both costly to repair. Will work on it Tuesday.

Just got the renewal notice for my i3 and R1T today from Mercury. SoCal, 7,500 miles/yr, no pts or accidents, multi cars, home & auto discount == $4013/yr

$1400 == i3
$2600 == R1T

Seems very high to me but don't really have options I guess

Mine was just slightly more than what it cost to insure my Teslas. It's a reasonable rate.

Progressive quote tool must be off. I added a R1S with $0 glass deductible and it increased my premium $100 month along with a 2010 wrangler. As a Louisiana resident I was prepared for something far worse.

Way too expensive, shop around. Why do you say that you don't have any options?

I'm with Mercury too. They apparently charge notable premiums on EV's. But, your $217 per month is certainly better than the $350 from Rivian. Hopefully Mercury comes back with a similar quote for me.

Traveler's quoted me something pretty ridiculous (can't remember exactly what), but the agent said that because they have no data on the truck it was going to be high.

Edited original post to add updated info:
Got my quote from my own insurance company today, Mercury. As I noted, they were horribly high priced with the Tesla at around $2,200 per 6 months, so wasn't expecting the quote to be very good for the Rivian. To my surprise, it came back at $1,071 per 6 months. I have multiple cars and my homeowner's with them as well. But $178 per month, almost half what Nationwide / Rivian quoted. Still higher than I'd like it to be, but considering the type of vehicle it is, I guess it's probably not too bad.

Rivian wanted $1,634 for 6 months if my 19 year old daughter was included on the policy, or $875 if she was excluded. I ended up staying with Mercury who I've had for 25 years: $556 for 6 months, but I have a multi-policy discount with 3 other cars and my house in So-Cal. Rivian/Nationwide does not offer homeowners insurance in California because of wild fires.

Rivian was about 15% higher than my then current provider (Progressive). I elected to go wit Rivian / Nationwide due to their OEM parts and jump the line on total loss policies.

I attempted to bundle and save, but apparently my home is now in a high risk area for wildfire and Nationwide wouldn’t even write it. Nor would Progressive. ?‍♂

A couple weeks ago I got a quote from Farmer's Insurance of $382/6 months, using the VIN from the truck which sold on Cars & Bids.

As far as factors on the premium, I'm in Iowa, 43, married, kids, one at-fault accident ~7yrs ago, been with Farmers since I was 16. They also cover our other car & house, plus we have an umbrella & life policies too. Both cars have maxed out bodily injury limits of like 500k/500k, and property damage limits are pretty high too. $1000 deductible for collision, $250 comprehensive. One thing I didn't tell him was that I'd have to finance a good portion of the truck, but I don't see think that would matter.

Back in 2018 & 2019 I got a few quotes for used Model S, something like a 2015 85D or the like, and at the time they quoted over $1000/6mo. Never got a clear answer on why, so I was quite shocked when I got the R1T quote.
