How do you guys think we could go about getting a Joe Mode a la Tesla for the R1T/R1S? I spoke with a service rep and suggested the idea but who knows if my suggestion will ever make it to the software team. Does anyone have any ideas on the right channels to go through, or perhaps if there is enough interest on this thread someone could forward it to Rivian? Muting all of those PC-like chimes and alerts would help those of us with babies/young kids sleeping in the rear seats. After all the R1T is supposed to be a relaxing, quiet ride experience, not an arcade game when you engage/disengage control cruise all the time.

Side note, I want to play a pinball game now...

I’d post it on the Rivian subreddit. Rivian employees frequent the subreddit and I’ve seen them respond to posts saying it’s a great idea or already in the works etc

I think Chill Mode is as much or more needed. Some of my kids get carsick from the strong start and stops.

...And low regen mode too.

It would be great if Rivian let you select combination of drive mode, ride height and regen setting as a single select preference, rather than selecting one at a time. A preset for the driver.

THIS. The strong regen also makes my youngest sick too. Hates the truck because of it.
Regen isn't an on-off switch. You can modulate it by not lifting off the pedal as far.

Yup, this is pretty much the feature request page for Rivian. The software engineers have said several times they read it.

I’ve only had my R1S for 24 hours but found switching from high to standard regen helped a lot. Yesterday after turning it down I drove my daughter who is most inclined to get carsick for 30 minutes or so and she didn’t complain.

High regen is very aggressive. A few thousand miles ago I switched to standard and ride quality and jerkiness are much better. Efficiency is just as good if not slightly better. Have to use breaks a bit more often but it’s a great trade off in my opinion.

100%. At least a low-regen braking software setting because the regen is so strong it makes the truck feel like you are always in stop/go traffic anytime you let off the accelerator.

Tesla’s Chill Mode also attenuates the acceleration, which is just as important for carsickness. And probably has a bigger impact on efficiency when driven on city/suburban roads. But when I want to lose someone at a light, I quick switch out of Chill.

It actually does not matter what level of regen you use. It is simply a matter of adaptation by learning to “feather” the accelerator pedal. I am able to make both acceleration and deceleration feel as soft and smooth as silk, and I’ve only been driving my R1S for 3 weeks.

I can also do the opposite making it extremely harsh and jerky. It is simply a matter of adapting to a different way of driving, and if I can do that anyone can.

It does take a good bit of concentration if you are constantly switching between ICE and EV as they drive so different. Just learn how to “feather” the EV pedal.

Younguns don't understand the whole feathering thing. As someone that only used to drive std transmission cars, (and before hill hold exists) you learned pretty damn quick how to feather the clutch. I could hold a car on a 40 degree incline all day long without ever touching the brakes and then accelerate smooth as silk. But youngsters?...a few years ago I had a Golf R manual and took it to have the state inspection, the poor kid gets in the car to drive it around back...sits in it for a good five minutes, gets out and goes back into the office. A couple minutes later an older women comes out hops in, while muttering about this generation, and whips it around back. Damn kids these days! :D

First, switch it out of high regen to to low regen (or whatever Rivian calls the modes). Then eeease off the pedal, to cause as much or as little braking action as you desire.
