I really can't stand that there are zero physical knobs or buttons.

Some sort of haptic / physical feedback is necessary while driving a car!
You get used to it. At least the Rivian can open/close individual vents, something you can't do with Tesla.

Oh good catch! Nevermind. I didn't realize I can control everything with those two thumb scroll wheels!
I hope they install those steering wheel controls for the passenger seats too!

I am so pumped about Rivian's no glove, clean fingers, and smooth roads only policies. I'm super stoked about not being able to drive my car with gloves on or dirty fingers or on a bumpy road.
And my wife can't wait to learn how to use this custom UI while I'm driving. She told me herself!...some of her favorite things is learning new tech, me yelling at her to turn the air up, and she really loves the challenge of trying to hit a touchscreen button on a bumpy road. So much joy to be had! We can't wait. Thanks Rivian for the happy marriage! Me and my wife really bond over unreliable tech that has constant updates!

Since you like talking so much, maybe Alexa will be used most frequently by you and your wife

Good thing you have options. Seems like the Hummer is a better fit for you.

I'm getting the sense you like buttons, leavers and such.
R-E-L-A-X, Aside from the HVAC controls your R1, assuming you get it, has physical buttons to control everything else that more run of the mill cars have. Infotainment type stuff has been going touch screen for the better part of a decade so this is not some crazy leap that Rivian took.
If Rivian had haptic buttons for even the majority of the plethora of features it has people would complain about to many buttons, levers, switches, dials... so they struck a balance leaning toward modern, which is exactly in line with the overall design.
I'm not thrilled about the vents either but I haven't even tried them yet so I'm holding out judgement.
Your not even realizing the dozens of concessions you are making with your Wrangler because you've always made them, now you have a choice the R1 will be overwhelmingly superior.

The big "physical" control that I think is missing is screen brightness. In my current vehicle, I adjust the screen brightness multiple times per day. At night I dim it down to almost as low as it will go, otherwise I find the screens bothersome and unsafe. But when I'm backing up I need to increase the brightness to max so I can see all detail the backup camera provides.

It does have a day/night mode that's switches the theme fro. White to black.

I am confident, but not positive, it will also dim or brighten within light dark mode based on ambient light same as your cell phone. Still may need frequent fiddling to get it in the goldilocks zone. I also believe screen brightness maybe a physical button on the steering wheel even though it is a multi purpose button where you navigate to the menu still technically using a button/ scroll wheel.

My Volvo can do that, although I leave it in dark/black all the time. It's not dark enough at night. The issue isn't just the color, but the amount of light. The "backlight" of traditional LCDs makes the issue worse. I wish OLED would become more popular in automotive applications.

I hope this turns out to be true.
