Anyone hear any update when the VA one is supposed to open?

Interesting... not like Rivians are rare sight around here. There is an even higher concentration of Teslas. But you know who is doing a great job at selling anything other than his own cars these days. Maybe easier access to demo drives will hasten the conversion rate? ?

I thought interesting as well. They have the theater in Laguna Beach, the SC in Costa Mesa, and the SC in Lake Forest, all less than 15 miles of the Spectrum.

I guess the rational is a lot of money and foot traffic in that area, maybe trying to reach people unfamiliar with the brand.

Might as well be asking winning numbers for next lottery drawing. Who knows. There is probably just one concept show car built. They cost millions. I can’t imagine Rivian having built more than one. It goes to whichever car show or pop up event Rivian decides to attend or host—which are announced through their social media accounts.

Maybe instead of opening "Spaces" Rivian could staff the Service Centers so that we can get a 2 hour service without leaving our Rivian there for a week?

And how do you fund that if you aren’t selling enough cars? And keep selling cars? Hopes and prayers? Chicken or the egg? You need both to propagate! Teslas are more common in Irvine than Camrys. If half of them convert to Rivian, that’s a big boost to the balance sheets.

Leaving your car with SC for a week is nothing… when they pay for your rental car.

That is a high traffic area. Laguna Beach and Irvine Spectrum. Service Center in Costa Mesa, and Lake Forest.

There must be lots of Rivians registered in South OC...

If they fixed their SC workflow and not have to pay for rental for just about every appointment, it would be a large cost avoidance in their expense ledger.

I used to live near the Spectrum so this is just a hunch:

Because of its location at the confluence of I5 and I405 the Spectrum draws from a much wider range in OC than other malls, as the outside walking makes it a place to spend an afternoon or evening. A Rivian location there would see visitors from Mission Viejo and Orange and Fountain Valley.

The Irvine Company is also very careful in curating the tenants at both Fashion Island and the Spectrum locations. Entirely possible Rivian is getting a favorable rate for the location from Irvine Co because they want to pull the Rivian demographic into that section of the mall to make it more visited by the “right” customers. There is absolutely nothing the Irvine Co does which is random or offhand.

We returned to SoCal a few years ago after living away for over a decade. We don’t live in OC now and don’t make the effort to go to the Spectrum, so the above is just a guess. Wife refers to the mall as the Irvine Speculum—cold, technical and unappealing.

Fashion Island already has multiple competitor showrooms and it's also a dying mall at this point ? There's a lot of vacancies there. It was a ghost town when I was there a couple weeks ago.
