This is now at page #8. It's long determine it is not a scam. Rivian doesn't know everyone's filing status so they blasted the email to every owner. And in order for IRS to verify credit claims for tax year 2023, they need Rivian to generate a sales report—so they can match tax IDs to said report.

If you think it's still a scam, and have not yet claimed credit in prior years, skip it I guess and see how things go for you when you try to claim. Caution: pain ahead.

im not saying its a scam, i know its legit. im just critiquing the comms overall and saying it looked like a scam because of the timing. and their follow up email looked even worse than the first one.

It came from non Rivian mail and said that Jim Bomar has added you as a signer. I was skeptical also, they could have made it a little more obvious.

For anyone that may have forgotten, tomorrow is the deadline.

I never got the email and just finding out about this, who do I need to contact? Purchased in Oct 2023, and was planning on filing CVA with IRS. I assume if I don't do this, my VIN isn't in the IRS database? Who can I call to get resolved?

If you are claiming with your ‘23 return and under all applicable IRA rules, you need to do it.

Thanks, I've sent an urgent email to my guide asking for assistance with this, as yes, I am claiming it on my 23' return --- Hopefully I'll get this in time.

I received the email as well (and a reminder). I filed a 2022 amendment and already received my credit (surprisingly fast). Is there any reason to sign this? Any reason not to? AS best I can tell, I should ignore it in my situation but it may be helpful to those who have not claimed their credit yet. The clarity of communication could be better.

It is absolutely stunning that there are 9 pages of posts over something so simple.

The clean vehicle report is only for those who bought in 2023 in the normal manner, and who intend to claim the 2023 credit. That’s it. Unless you bought a Rivian for less than $80K in 2023, you don’t need to submit anything.

Or call your guide.
Or post more questions.
Or call someone.
Or do anything.

I filed amended taxes 5 months ago for 2022 , still no refund. No checks and no direct deposit, what to do now?
I am in the same boat. Planning to submit the form, there think there will be anything -ve here.

Short answer: No

I have received multiple reminders. Yesterday, being slightly annoyed, I decided to bet on the off chance that there are humans at the other end of these reminders. I replied to “Jim Bomar”.

Me:
Per most recent email from Rivian, I have already successfully claimed pre-IRA credit (via Binding Purchase Agreement and amending my ’22 return) and that no further action by me is needed.

Unless this guidance/assumption is incorrect, I decline.
This AM from Rivian CS (not Jim himself):
Because we aren't aware of your filing status, this email was sent out to all Rivian owners who might want to file under the 2023 Inflation Act.

Likewise, if you’ve already amended your 2022 tax return you don’t have to worry about filling out the seller’s report at this time.
As far as I’m concerned, case closed.

Inevitable, when people don't read or read too deep beyond what is actually written and jump immediately to predisposed speculation.

So I have a tax question. I understand that some of you may be accountants and none of you are my accountants.

On your 1040, you get your final tax amount, minus your credits, like children and what not. What's left over is your amount you owe Uncle Sam.

Where is the 7500 thrown into the equation?

I’m not your accountant nor any type of accountant, but in your analogy it’s a “what not” credit that reduces your “tax amount” so that you ultimately owe less to Uncle Sam.

If you're asking where the 7500 comes from (if you qualify), it's deducted from your total tax liability.
