Rumor: Rivian buying ABRP

I would find it more believable that Rivian may be paying ABRP to use their API for routing. But buying them outright? Possible, I guess, but unexpected.

Part of the purchase of ABRP is to cancel the powered tonneau cover altogether and retroactively send mobile service techs to everyone who has yellow logos on their floor mats to remove them and swap for black. Weird deal points to you but I watch Succession I understand business and this is great news for me as a shareholder.

It seems more likely they would be buying access to data. But who knows. Ive seen wierder acquisitions

I mean, EVGo bought PlugShare several years ago. So crazier things could be true, but as above, I'd venture they'd just be buying access to their algorithm or API. Regardless, if Rivian does gain access to their route planning I'm all for it.

Having just been on ABRP pre planning a trip from Vancouver to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The ability to alter parameters of each charge stop by either duration of charge, or departing SOC and see its knock on effects is pretty sweet. So as a user and driver, I'd be thrilled to see some sort of integration.

They need all the software help they can get. Especially around navigation.

YES I KNOW we will not get AA or CP, but assuming some or all of this rumor is true. Wouldn't it just be cheaper to let AA and CP work on the headunit. Seems like a lot of wheel reinvention. I believe ABRP works on AA (and assume CP) natively.
