I have a set of RealWheelsEV running boards that I love and highly recommend. Last month the Seattle Rivian Service Center rejected my R1T, saying they couldn't lift the vehicle with the running boards attached to service the right rear bumper sensor. I contacted RealWheelsEV and they stated that you can absolutely lift the vehicle with standard pucks. They have only heard about this issue (Service Center rejecting a vehicle with their running boards) maybe three times in total. Sounds like the issue is not with my running boards but with the Service Center in South Seattle. Short of removing the running boards or driving to another service center, was wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this situation in the Seattle area?

I have the EV Sportline rock sliders. I bought the R1S used and it came with them. Previously the service center in Minneapolis charged me $200 to remove and reinstall during a service. This time, when they changed the high voltage battery, I let them know ahead of time that the sliders have lifting points and that if they wanted to charge me they should just take them off and leave them off as I don't really go offroading and $220 a service is a bit much. They didn't say anything this time and replaced the HV battery without charging me.

Either: 1) they just removed and reinstalled as good will, 2.) the local policy changed, or 3.) they didn't realize the first time that the sliders had jack points.

I'd try reaching out to the service department and let them know that the jack pucks do work and see what they say.

One thing I recall--the service centers use a different lift system than the standard "soda can jack pucks" most of us have. They're on horizontal arms with integrated, wide jack point adapters. So it's definitely possible that some sliders/boards may get in the way, and if so, that really can't be on them.

FWIW, my truck has had EVSportline running boards, AND the aluminum aero covers, and has been lifted up at the local Rivian service center 3-4 times. I've never once gotten a comment about the boards.

Thank you. That’s good info. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. It actually gives me ammunition the next time I take my Vic in.

I have the same running boards and the same problem. The service centers use much fatter pucks that won't clear on the sides. I can use my own pucks without issues.

I've also been charged $200 to remove them, a job that takes 6 minutes since you don't need to touch the underbody or take the brackets off and they've refused to reinstall them citing liability. It's some bullshit.

Yep, I asked if I bring extended pucks, would they use them? NO! I guess I'll just remove the running boards the next time I bring it in for service. Thanks for the info.

I have same running boards with r1s. I have been to seattle and bellevue service centers, they never raised that as an issue for service.

The OE pucks slip over the lifting mounts on the arms. They are very secure compared to pucks that just sit on top of a pad. Basically impossible for a lifted vehicle to slip off.

An update to my original post:
Before I removed my running boards so the Service Center would work on my issue, I drove to another Rivian SC close by to get their opinion. The Foreman came out to look at the truck and said, "No problem. Schedule another visit to our shop and we will have no issues troubleshooting and fixing your sensor." So I did, and he fixed it. Like medicine, always good to get a second opinion.
