Is it ok to leave a 7 pin to 4 pin adapter plugged in after disconnecting a trailer? It is difficult to seat the adapter fully and I would like to leave it plugged in. If the hitch cover is installed the adapter is mostly protected from the elements.

I leave my adapter (as well as the hitch) in all summer season (frequent boat launching). Never had a problem.

no issue with keeping the adapter plugged in, it;'s not an active device.
