Send to Rivian

Discovered yesterday that I was looking up an address on Google maps and on my iPhone hit the share button where there was an option to send to Rivian. It loads the address on the vehicle map with driving directions. Nice way to preload your trip from the phone since there is no direct CarPlay, google maps or Waze app in the vehicle.

Good tip. I have been using this feature. When I get in the truck, the map is there.

I've used that feature a few times now... very handy.

A few years back, I forget which car it was (I've been through a lot of vehicles).. you could even bring up a Google map on your PC and send that to the vehicle vs. only being able to do that from a phone.

This was included in an update later part of last year (don't ask me which). They also updated the maps to use google maps while the route planning is still by mapbox I believe.

My delivery guide told me about this when I took delivery. I think I found a slight limitation with it? The route came up with several options. I selected an alternate on the screen of the phone, and sent the route to the R1S. It came up on the R1S as the primary route. I tried it 4 or 5 times and could not get it to send anything but the primary route. Anyone else try this?

I believe the only thing you can truly send to the Rivian is the point location. The navigation is handled by the truck.

They were talking about big changes to navigation this summer, I am excited to see those roll out.

Ahh, that makes sense. I was assuming the selected route should be sent. To me, that limits the usefulness. For various reasons, I probably select alternate routes about 20% of the time, knowing general road conditions, possible spur of the moment waypoints that I don't want to add to the route ("let's go this way and if we have time we can stop by XYZ on the way"), etc.

I guess the workaround for now is to add waypoints....?

It is available in Tesla. But yeah, it is convenient. Like my wife is driving the Rivian and I can send meetup location to her.

I too like this feature, but my one, probably unreasonable complaint is that I can't seem to send the end point location if I am not the driver.

I.e. wife is driving but my phone is connected via bluetooth driving the music (yes I know the driver SHOULD get to pick the music but...) and I try to send the location to the next charger from my phone and it doesn't seem to work.

Reasonably easy to grab hers and do it from there but not as easy.
