For the past few months, I've been performing a hard reset kinda' regularly, probably once every week or two. I compare this to a routine shutdown-restart of my laptop computer, and have put it in the can't-hurt-might-help category.

In a recent thread on some forum (here, Reddit, I'm not sure...) someone made a comment that they were advised by a Rivian service tech not to do too many hard resets.

Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone have relevant experience one way or the other?

Probably can't hurt but it likely doesn't help anything either. There is no reason to regularly reset you Rivian and you might be wiping out potentially useful diagnostic data (should it be needed). Its likely better practice to use the hard reset as needed if you are troubleshooting and trying to clear a problem.

I agree with RivAW, and don't want to hard reset Opal (R1T) unless I have to. On the other hand, I restart my Android phone every night.

Just let the truck do it once a month, as part of the regular updates.

For some reason I cannot do the soft reset with my truck. When you hold down the outer two steering wheel buttons it doesn't do anything just cycles the modes on the left. So I have to do the hard reset each and every time I need to reset the truck. Usually at least once a month I have to in order to clear some wacky error. Last time it was because only my subwoofer was working all the other speakers sounded like they were under water or something. The reset fixed it.

Does your right-hand button work? If you have cruise control on, does the right hand button increment the speed when pressed?

Yes and that is what's strange to me. I can use it to increase speed during cruise control just fine. But it won't recognize a soft reset.

I just had this issue yesterday… main screen locked upon a short drive and wouldn’t allow me to pull up HVAC, drive settings, etc. Went to do a soft reset (which I’ve had to do only a couple times in six months) and it wouldn’t take. After I parked I tapped the main screen again and all worked normally, but didn’t try the reset again. Little bit of a hiccup, but have never been locked out of a soft reset before. All steering wheel buttons work fine.
