I noticed that my 6m old truck developed a burned out side mirror over night...it was parted indoors, not been washed, etc...last night it was fine and this morning it looks like this. Anyone know what happened?

Hopefully covered because the mirrors are not cheap. I cracked the casing on mine (side of the garage). The original work order quote for the whole thing since they didn't know what it was unseen was $1300 in parts. Ended up just replacing 2 plastic casing pieces and it still cost $700 in parts and $260 in labor without replacing the glass. Can't find the original work order but I think the glass was ~$700 by itself.

If I were to guess, the heating element crapped out and baked the film that dims the mirror? Either way, should be covered under the comprehensive warranty, but I'm sure they'll want to figure out why it happened in the first place.

Did you try turning on the defroster? ? My mirrors in all of my vehicles look similar most mornings this time of year. âť„ But it usually goes away pretty quickly once I turn on the defrost.

No, I didn't turn on the defroster. I found similar pictures of other manufacturer's cars with similar issue...and they were due to water damage. My Rivian was parked in a garage with no exposure to the elements.

I was suggesting that turning the defroster on might fix it.

If the problem was that it's cold outside and condensation froze on the surface of the mirror, which happens every night in Cold places, turning on the defroster. We'll clear it away.

It's been pretty warm here lately and we've not experienced frost this past week. Plus I've not driven the vehicle outside due to a gear tunnel issue (now fixed). I did just tried your suggestion on using the defrost function anyways....no change.
