Wow! I had the quad and never could quite make it. I got overconfident once and got close but had to stop on the north side of Nashville in a sketchy area and sir at a level 2 charger long enough to get to an electrify America. Our house in Cincy is on the north east side and our house in Nashville is south so it is just over 300 miles.

I have to make the drive tomorrow in the Sierra for the first time the app says charge to 90% and that should do it I am sure they are leaving a buffer on arrival.
The max pack would easily make 300 miles in conserve. You should have traded for one of those.

Hi all just to follow up. Drive back to Cincinnati today. I charged to 100% which indicated 457 went to church and back right at 32 miles then drove to Cincy 306 miles there was a cross wind and rain 1/2 of the way. I arrived with 91 miles remaining so 429 on a full charge give or take. Not bad.
I’ve done from STL to Chicago (302 miles) in conserve in a gen1 quad R1T (21’s) once - but sat in the slipstream of a truck for ~80miles at the end. Made it more comfortably than expected - with 5% when we pulled into the charger. It’s generally been more convenient to just rip it up to bloomington and grab some food and a leg stretch before going the rest of the way though.

That’s awesome range. The large pack R1T and R1S have more range than my bladder. Reason why I opted for max range Silverado to replace the T was for towing. I should be able to go at least 175 mi between charging stops now vs 100 or less with the Gen1 large.

Never any complaints taking either of them on northeast road trips in winter. Even the standard range probably has enough daily range for most. Towing and Hauling stuff is where all that extra battery is needed.

To be clear I loved my R1T and had nothing seriously go wrong with it and when it did the service center was quick to respond. The only complaint would have been that when my 12v battery died they wanted to wait two weeks to come replace it. Once I explained my situation they adjusted and came within a few days.
My 12V is dying, just got the warning on Sunday, and Rivian just gave me an appointment for May 5th, what a joke. Guess I will be on the phone today.

I'm fortunate to have a Sierra in addition to my R1T. Based on my experience and what you've discussed, the Sierra will be a better truck for your needs. The "real" range and superb charging curve far outclass the R1T. In my experience (interstate is mainly mountain, so less max speed but more up-down), the Sierra has an efficiency that is 80-90% of the R1T, and with over 50% more useful battery. It reliably fast charges 15-75% in 30 minutes - seeing 350kW pop up and hold to around 50% SoC still amazes me. The combination makes it a much more efficient road tripping (and towing) vehicle. GMC Supercruise is also better, although the new Rivian hands-free upgrade has closed the gap a bit.
In addition to my R1T, I also have a Hummer EV, and agree with you 100% about towing and road tripping. The Hummer is even more capable off road too.

I got the impression you are driving almost 300 miles every day. Wow! Anyway it sort of demonstrates how we are defined by things like our cars or our jobs. I had a reservation for a Silverado EV and I could have ended up with one, except they just weren't available. Their huge size would be a problem for me. The Rivian is hard enough to park. There are lots of features of Sierra/Silverado that I really like. I wonder why Rivian doesn't have any sort of pass-through from the cabin to the bed. They probably could have worked it out. Anyway, enjoy your truck. I get the feeling you may be back.

I'll probably never get a GMC product but occasionally I go "hmmm" to a GM product. The Sierra EV is the "hmm" product of the now. The height under the cover is a big plus of the Sierra. How small the height of the R1T is drives me nuts.

Maybe at some point I'll have a Sierra EV and a Rivian R2.
Hmm.

We are glad that you enjoyed the ride here on the Rivian Forums. We wish you smooth sailing with your new GMC EV. I have been looking at getting a Silverado EV for some time now. We pull a 7,500# Airstream and need the range. Our R1T is a great tow vehicle, but the range doesn't quite make it for us. We are planning to replace our 2020 Duramax with a Silverado EV later this year. We plan to keep the R1T for short runs. We are already on the Silverado EV Forum. I'm sure I'll see you there.

I love that pass through from the bed to the cabin. If Rivian did it, the power tonneau might have to go, and for sure the gear tunnel would go. I do really, really like both the powered cover and the tunnel. It would be a hard decision to get rid of those for the pass through.

I'm lucky to have a travel trailer I can haul over 200 miles otherwise I'd use an ICE.
