Software Update 2023.38 Release Notes ?

Hmmm, pretty minor update. I mean it has a lot of small things, UI tunes, etc. Thought we would get some good functionality this Summer like text message integration, +music options, etc. Will be interesting to check out Halloween mode - wondering why we still don't color ambient light configs if turns out color is possible again for all of us.

The best schedule we were ever told re: texting, media, etc. can be found in this video.

If I recall, tow mode stuff was "summer" with text and media over the next few quarters?

I'm too lazy to watch it again, but like you, I am really looking forward to those functional improvements. Rivian does seem to be "loosely" meeting the schedule laid out in that video, which is not that common. That makes the waiting a little easier (for me).

How is this a minor update? They come out every 4 weeks and they're basically redoing a big portion of their GUI, adding machine learning on efficiency, and improving towing!

Super pumped they added a nerd out mode to see what the truck is doing.

Substance; unlike my Tesla updates.

The problem with Tesla is that they don't actually document their changes properly. 2023.32 only had the following release note:

"You can now choose Hebrew as your touchscreen language.

To change the language, shift into Park, and go to Controls > Display > Touchscreen Language."

However they completely changed their camera codec (I assume color and sharpness is a huge improvemnt), visualizations were updated for traffic (trucks are now scaled, open doors are shown, etc.), the reverse camera was cropped to remote the bumper on the 3 and Y. Service Mode was also a huge update with real release notes (not shown in the release notes of the update itself!!).

It's annoying that we have to figure out what changed with Tesla.

It’s a little ridiculous it even requires a software update, especially if it ends up being the same as last year. I’m not sure why it would have needed to be removed from the code since it was date-locked anyway.

They desperately need to move the Trip meters to the driver gauge cluster, like Tesla has it. Accessing it just hideous since they buried it a few updates ago. Should be one of the optional screens with Tire pressures, nav instructions and efficiency meter. Keep hoping they'll fix this in the next update, but no such luck so far.

It sounds like trip data will be in the new gauge view. Not sure if it will persist from drive-to-drive until reset (like a traditional trip meter) or if It will only display data from the current drive.

I wish they can focus on what they promise to deliver on their advertisement, e.g. lane change assist. Without delivering that, how can we expect Rivian to deliver something more significant like the functionality provided by Tesla’s basic autopilot.

Check the video linked in post 32. They actually are delivering on their "promises". Maybe not prioritized as you would like, and a little late, but they are delivering.

My boat will be scheduled for winterization as the improved tow mode finally arrives. Can’t wait until May 2024! /s
