Just got the R1S yesterday and love it. Couldn't connect it to our house mesh wifi which is a Deco M9 Tplink system. It could see some networks nearby, but not mine. I saw some on here with similar problems, but the solutions ranged from add a dedicated router to use the 4g connection for anything needed. It seems it was that my router wasn't showing the encryption protocol the Rivian's want. I found the solution so I wanted to document it here for someone else. Even if you don't have a Deco router there might be something similar for your router.
Issue
The issue is that the Deco M9 has a great app and automatically updates the firmware, but at some point it stopped updating automatically (around 2021) and it didn't have the WPA2 AES Encryption in the firmware until after that time. I found a number of other people with various vehicles on the web with the same issue.
Solution
The solution is to update the firmware manually. It sounds worse than it is. You basically go here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1599/ and follow the instructions for the version of router you have. You download the update tool and then download the lastest firmware (some have to update in succession multiple versions with the tool if they get an error jumping versions ie. you must upgrade to v2, 3, and 4 instead of going right from v1 to v4.
Updated it in about 10 minutes and the Rivian saw it right away.
