I'll start off by saying I'm a pretty easy going guy on my off time. Work is a different story, but I try not to mix both personalities.
I took delivery of my R1S on April 27th. Everything was great. Overall, fit and finish was good, except for the front drivers side fender. It was noticeably misaligned, but looked like a minor adjustment was all that was needed. Also had a ding in rear passenger door sill that looked like the door was closed on the seatbelt buckle. Knowing that the truck was only built three weeks earlier, I figured it happened on the assembly line. Still not an issue, because I could just set up an appointment to fix the fender and it looked like a PDR guy could fix the door sill.
In early June I had my appointment at Costa Mesa. Not a big deal, because I got a nearly new Mercedes GLE 350 as a rental. Fit and finish on the GLE was perfect btw. After 3 weeks passed with no movement of my R1S from the back lot (GPS and cabin temp), I called because I was leaving on month long trip to Japan and needed to do something with the rental. A couple days later and my R1S was is inside the building being worked on (GPS, cabin temp and hood open). 2 day after that, truck is ready for pickup... great. Truck was filthy at pickup, so I didn't notice anything until I got on the freeway. Now my silent truck sounded like a jeep with the doors off. I could hear the wind coming from the top of the door . I drove straight to a car wash and when I got out to look around, I noticed 3 dents along the two drivers side doors, right at the agle crease above the door handles. Probably caused by a fixture they used to remove or realign the doors. I also looked at the door and saw that the drivers door was sticking out exposing the door seal. That was the source of the wind. Oh yeah, a nice 3 inch scratch at the front of the door edge was added that they tried to touch up by hand. Might have worked if the touch up paint was the same color and not milky white. I freaked out and called. Ended up setting an appointment in August after I returned from my trip.
August 3rd dropped off the R1S and this time I was given an R1T. I really like the truck and didn't mind our car taking a little longer, because it was going to a third party body shop to repair and repaint the doors. Not 100% sure, but thentruck GPS'd to a shop in Orange called Krizen off Taft near the 57. After 3 weeks I called and later that day I was called back to tell me my car was ready. Fast-forward to today when intake that 45 minute drive to pickmup the truck. After 10 minutes of searching for my fob, I located the R1S buy unlocking the doors . Looked great from far, but then I walked up. The hood looked like a hologram of crappy buff marks. Probably get a better finish if you took a freshly painted black lambo to have the 15 year old at the carwash buff it.
On the door, the dents were gone, but that 15 year old burned through the clearcoat and base, exposing the primer. Not to mention, they took my new carpool lane sticker off my rear bumper, which was put there three days before it was dropped off. Only took 5 weeks to get those and I have no clue why they would touch the bumper.
