Again, as stated many times, I have one in my config. If I want to buy an available one, from the shop today, I don't have the option you keep stating that I should do. Horse officially dead.
No one is saying you have an option to buy a spare from the shop today. As stated many times, if you want to get one with your truck you will have to get lucky for one to show up in the shop or wait until your config gets called with the spare. They are trying to deliver as many trucks as possible, which doesn’t allow everyone who wants a spare to get one right away.

I have the R1T with 20 inch AT’s. It came without a spare. While I have found the tire from various third party vendors I have been unable to locate a wheel to put it on. I feel I am on borrowed time if I do any significant off roading. Hope springs eternal that Rivian will eventually cough up some spare tires for purchase.

If you need the spare - wait for your truck to be built. Otherwise, grab a truck from the shop.

If you need the max pack - wait for your truck to be built. Otherwise, grab a truck from the shop.

If you need the R1S - wait for your SUV to be built. Otherwise, grab a truck from the shop.

If you need Ocean Coast interior - wait for your truck to be built. Otherwise, grab a truck from the shop.

The shop is meant to be a way to get vehicles out to folks who prioritize delivery timing over their preferred custom builds.

Sounds like a spare tire is very important to you...therefore waiting until they build your truck is the only option for now.

Also, given your preferences for Max pack, spare tire, 20" wheels, underbody shield, etc. I think you're compromising too much if you get a truck from the shop. We're all anxious, but it seems like those things combined would be too much for me to get past. I think you should get what you want. Otherwise you may end up regretting it down the road. (pun intended)

I know you have it in your config, but if you get one from the shop, without the full size spare you get nothing In its place.

I had 20" wheels and changed to 21" because I don't really off-road and want to get max range, and also want to get my truck ASAP. Once I changed to 21" I got a config lock and guide contact within a few weeks. (and my latest predicted delivery was Q1 2023)

When I did change those wheels, it took off the spare (because the spare was a 20") and I didn't even notice.

When I talked to my guide yesterday about my config, I asked him if I could add a 21" spare and he said it would impact my deliver as I was already matched with a truck without a spare. So I am going to be taking delivery of a truck with no spare in the next week or so.

My plan is to buy a 21" tire from tirerack and keep it in the bed for road trips. I'm guessing if I have a blow out in a rural area I can at least get a tow and tire change. If a decent priced 21" aftermarket wheel comes out I'll add that, or sell the tire whenever Rivian will sell me a 21" spare setup in the Gear Shop.
Weird, I had the exact same thing happen to me when I confirmed my config; spare tire was removed and I didn’t notice. Spoke to my guide even after finishing the 7 of 8 steps and he was able to add it to the order and regenerate a purchase agreement for me to sign with the spare. No delay for my truck delivery, but I’m still waiting for the spare to arrive. No eta yet but I’m happy knowing it’s at least on order and on its way eventually.

That's ridiculous. So you just have to sit in the middle of nowhere with your thumb up your ass?
Get a patch kit and with built-in compressor it's better than nothing.

well, you don't HAVE TO stick your thumb up your ass... :)
But seriously, my Tesla had no spare or even a can of slime, I bought them myself, although they never did me any good.

So if one doesn't order the "full size" spare tire, does it just come with a pizza cutter spare? My configuration has the full size tire and reinforced underbody (and max pack). I really want all 3, but I'm getting the itchy trigger finger on one of these configurations in the shop, especially after seeing some of the powder coat jobs on the 21"s. Also, if any of you have some pics of the reinforced underbody shield, I'd love to see some closeups beyond what Rivian has on their site.
Let the itch take control!!!!

Um….not sure if you realize this but most EVs (and cars in general) don’t come with spares anymore. You typically get an air pump with a can of fix of flat basically.

Solution…..pay for a spare.
A new world out there

Well being people are selling their 21's for upwards of $4k I think you could manage to get a aftermarket setup with a spare for the cost. Issue will be no scissor jack etc.
Rims and tires I hope

I may order this from my distributor as a spare. Its a 20x9 5x5.5 with a +20 off set which is about an inch wider to the outside than stock but for a spare I think it should be fine.

I empathize with you, OP. It seems irrational that Rivian doesn't allow you to add a spare to an R1 Shop order. I understand it wouldn't be delivered with the truck, but that shouldn't prevent supplementing the purchase for a later delivery when it is available. Hell, I took delivery two months ago and added the spare to my config very late in the process (after my guide said it was selected for fulfillment and locked). This was pre-R1 Shop days. I still don't have the spare. I'm not mad about it, but clearly they can deliver trucks with "we owe" caveats.

Only possible explanation I see is the spare is costing them more than they're charging, particularly if installed post-delivery. If so they should just be transparent about it.

This was a fun one (you can see my camprest mattress in the pic - needless to say, I was in an area where any roadside/OR assistance was not feasible, no cell reception either). W/O a spare, I would have been F'd:

NOTE: This did not occur on any extreme off-roading, just a rather well traveled mountain road with lots of small granite typical of Utah.
