Appreciate all the encouragement! I have 22s so I don’t think I can get Michelins just yet. At least on tire rack, only the Pirellis are showing.

I will definitely give it another shot with a smaller, more specialized shop and see. I’m curious if Rivian would actually warranty them out. If Discount Tire is saying they’re fine and all 4 are similarity high, I’m not sure they will :(

Same issue but it was worse at first with my new Michelin 22" Defender LTX M/S2 when I replaced my OE Pirelli 22" scorpion AS's. Would hit right about 77mph. I brought it back for a re-balance yesterday, and this morning didn't detect the increased vibrations I had when I first had them installed (that said, there's always some minor shake or vibration on this car, at least with the 22s, no matter what). But right now at least it feels within tolerance, at least for me.

Rivian should and will do everything to get them warrantied. I thought they did have the Michelins for the 22s. Let me check for you. Just stand your ground and tell them no more than 15lbs is acceptable ??.

I just took my 2023 R1S back from the service center for the steering wheel shake issue. They had it from 07/22/2024 until 09/14/2024. Its not fixed and they wanted to keep it longer but i am moving from Raleigh to Boston in a week and i need to take it with me. This is what they replaced:

"- Test drove the car with customer, verified customer concern. Balanced tires, and did cross
rotation. All 4 tires were out of balance. Test drove again and the steering wheel nibble is still
there. Replaced 2 tires, and test drove. Vibration is still there. Replaced front half shafts and test
drove, vibration is still there. Performed drain and fill of hydraulic fluid, shaking at steering
wheel is still there. Replaced all 4 air modules( shocks), filled up the system and test drove, no
change. Customer is moving and needs a car back, the diagnostic will stay active with the
Engineers for now. Scratches noted to "pockets" around lug nuts from an unshielded socket
being used previously.

Correction/Remedy:
- Steering General Diagnostic
- Steering Wheel (Remove and Replace)
- Dampers, Front, LH/RH (Retrofit)
- Damper, Rear, LH (Remove and Replace)
- Damper, Rear, RH (Remove and Replace)
- Lines, Hydraulic Suspension, H1 and H2, Middle (Remove and Replace)
- Tires, Rear, Set of 2 (Remove and Replace)
- Tire Rebalancing
- Halfshaft, Front, LH (Remove and Replace)
- Halfshaft, Front, RH (Remove and Replace)"

They didn't fix the issue, but to their credit they are taking it very seriously and seem vested in getting it fixed. Also with all that work, they didn't damage the vehicle and it was clean when i received it, although they put 209 miles on the odometer apparently on test drives...

Side rant -- Note the damage to the "Pockets" around the lug nuts from "an unshielded socket"... this is more damage from the one time i took it to discount tire for a balance... they scratched and damaged the wheels, badly scratched a brake caliper and they lifted the car from the plastic body panels instead of placing the lifting pucks correctly, breaking a mounting bolt in the process.... also it appears they didn't even properly balance the tires. -- side rant over

I’m so sorry for your experience with your new R1S… it’s really frustrating.
I just used a top notch wheel specialist in Tempe and they didn’t even fix it so it’s definitely something with the suspension or tires…
I explained my experience with Rivian SC in this thread:

Thanks, it is frustrating... They put the new tires on the front, and the vibration is actually a little worse than it was before they did all that work... i wonder I still have a tire balance issue...

Got to get the exact numbers of the road force readings... You will get vibration no matter what if the road force numbers are above 12-14 lbs especially in the front. Techs dont always know that and few are experienced with this machine.

I went to Wheel Specialist in Tempe. They got them all to 2-4lbs. Still shaking. ?

Yep, my steering wheel shakes all the time over 60mph since Sept 2022. multiple tire balances, new tires, and 3 SC visits = NO improvement. Get the standard SC response "Within Specification" whatever the hell that means. In Spec my Arse, I've never had a steering wheel shake like this.
And its going back to the SC next month with a laundry list of items including....steering wheel vibration.
The next time you take it to the SC, insist on taking a test drive with a technician — have them drive with you as the passenger. Worked for me with an alignment issue.

They say it's normal, even after a test-drive.

People who repeatedly parrot recommendations of Discount Tire need to see this… and think again. People who get recommended DT, need to see this also, and learn to think on their own.

There is a reason DT quit direct interaction in this forum.

I took it at the recommendation of the rivian service center (against my better judgement) since the SC is 200+ miles away. Rivian assured me that they had the tools and training to do it right. They didn’t.
