Oh, good idea

Not sure what generation vehicle OP has , if the fuses are user accessible, or if the tonneau cover and tailgate operate on the same fuse.

The fact that the tonneau cover and the tailgate both operate unexpectedly at the same time points to the button on the back left that controls them both.
Mmm. Water intrusion in the switch or connector, maybe? Is the Cayman Islands one of those "really wet places"? Iirc it isn't "too difficult" to access the insides of the bed; maybe a replacement switch could be sourced from a wrecked vehicle and ordered online?

I have a problem with my RIT tailgate opening automatically (on its own whim) whenever i start or stop my RIT, which can be a problem if i am parked close to another car. Any ideas as to fixing?
Let's try this again...

Can you post a video of it occurring?

If it's truly "randomly" opening and not a result of you (or anyone else with your Rivian in their app) accidentally leaving the app open and "butt dialing" the Drop Tailgate button, I have a way to test latch functionality.

I recommend disconnecting both latches. If it stops "randomly dropping," it isn't a latch hardware issue. Next is reconnect latches and disconnect the tailgate Drop button. If it stops "randomly dropping," it could be a button issue.

Please follow-up here to people's questions, otherwise we're walking away and ignoring this.

many thanks - this is very useful ... i did give the latch a thorough spray with WD40 and it seems to be behaving for the moment - but these PDFs are very useful for the next level of exploration - if needed

Two random thoughts:

(1) Those PDF's are awesome
(2) For all our sakes, I hate all the bits about "non-reusable components" and "seam sealer" - isn't that basically just glue to hold the parts together? 😢

It also includes plastic fasteners that a lot of us reuse...but shouldn't.
