Taking Delivery Friday, sign contract beforehand?

Hi everyone, first time posting here and first EV.

Had a quick question to see what everyone has done. I am taking delivery of my R1T on Friday. The delivery team suggested to sign the order summary and motor vehicle agreement beforehand to prevent delays.

I would prefer to physically see it before signing anything. And do you know if they let you do a walkthrough of the vehicle before signing? Thanks in advance!

That is the Rivian Way. Not exactly like the Wierding Way, but much like House Atreides, you don’t have a choice but to do it.

It's the same as e-signing any document. Read it first and either sign or don't. If you wait until delivery you will have huge delays because they can't move forward unless it's signed.

And here I thought I was the only one that liked that movie! Have you seen the alternate ending? I prefer it over the theatrical version.

I signed my contract before hand as its "The way"... But you can still reject the vehicle at time of delivery for issues.

It's the Rivian way ?. Do you have any concerns? The folks here would be happy to answer any questions you have. Your not accepting delivery when you sign it. You have to accept delivery in the app then sign the final paperwork before it's officially yours.

I believe you have to sign the paperwork to get to delivery. Otherwise expect delays and waiting. That said, you can still refuse delivery if you find something to be wrong with it before “accepting delivery” electronically at the time of delivery

As much as I love cars, I'm not an expert. I asked the SC to look over the car and make sure everything was ok. They do that anyway but I still asked. I signed my docs a few days before delivery. Everything went well. The process just doesn't allow for signing the docs after delivery.

I get the process is different with EVs when ordering from Rivian/Tesla/etc. As long as we can decline delivery and everything gets voided, paperwork wise, I think that puts me at ease. If it makes you feel any better, we took delivery of our R1T in 12/22 at the factory in Illinois. We paid for the truck, signed all of the electronic paperwork, bought airline tickets and traveled to Normal without ever seeing the truck. We did have some final paperwork to sign in person at the delivery center. (Make sure the DMV paperwork is correct)

We had very minor issues that Rivian needed to correct, which were all taken care of at a service center after we drove the truck 900 miles back to Virginia.

Also, back in 2022 there were virtually no chances to demo drive or even see an R1T prior to purchase. Fortunately we met an early VIN holder in our area who gave us a quick ride.

I balked too....but it was the most FRICTIONLESS car buying experience I've ever had! And that includes the time I bought a car from Costco, where the sales guy still tried to sell me a warranty. The old school way of selling cars is so fatiguing. Our Rivian guy was informative and delightful. No games!

I did do a demo drive a few months ago and that’s when I fell in love with the truck!

Specifically what I meant in my post is test driving the vehicle you plan on purchasing. Like if you go to a dealer you test drive the one you plan on buying.

Just need to get used to this new way, and yes looking forward to this seamless experience and not dealing with shady dealers. Thanks again for all of the advice this community is great! Really appreciate it!

I was told by my guide that the documents should be signed at least 2 business days before delivery to avoid any delays. I did opt to hand them a cashiers check on day of delivery as opposed to ACH or the other option they had. I might be old school, but there's no way I'm buying a car sight unseen. IIRC, there was still 1 document I had to sign when I took delivery.
