I don't understand the allure of satellite radio these days. You can have a music subscription and download just about any song you want, as much as your phone's storage allows, for offline listening. Unless you like talk radio or something, I'd rather listen to music or audiobooks. I can do both of these things through Bluetooth with no service.
I get why people like it, but I agree that now there are so many good alternatives. Before our phones could store that much content and streaming wasn’t a thing I loved my SXM service. I had to drive all over the place, in many remote areas and I got tired of hitting the seek button on my radio only to find NPR and country music everywhere I went. I still have an SXM streaming subscription but I rarely listen to it.…

Sound quality is greatly reduced while using Bluetooth. If it is a native app built in it will sound much much better.

Also for me for example. I have a lifetime Sirius subscription so it is always free!

From what I understand, SXM's sound quality could be better, too. It's well below Apple Music, for example. You do have reduced quality via Bluetooth, but satellite isn't a workaround.

SiriusXM app has hundreds of stations. A number of them play lesser known or new artists. I specifically track a number of weekly shows (ex. Gorilla Vs. Bear, Dark Wave, Download 15, XMU Sessions, etc). It's a great way to discover new (and old) artists.

So for me it's a totally different use case from Apple Music (which I also use and have an immensely large library).

And this is one of the reasons a lack of CarPlay kinda sucks. CarPlay using XM was pretty nice in my Defender. Not to send this down a CarPlay rabbit hole. I honestly don't care if it ever comes to Rivian. Just saying in lieu of a native app having it via CP was nice.

Even if the Gen II vehicles had a sat antenna in the Sharkfin, you also need a satellite receiver or one built in to the vehicle's infotainment head unit. It would be pretty amazing if Rivian not only hid a sat antenna inside the Sharkfin, but they also hid a whole sat radio receiver inside the infotainment system head unit?

Here's what's inside the Sharkfin currently, a LTE antenna array board.

I added SXM radio to my R1T with the FM adapter and receiver. To my tired old ears the quality of sound is certainly acceptable and not needing to rely on cell tower coverage is a blessing. But I am not one to preload music on my cellphone in order to BT it to my truck. Something about “Old dogs and new tricks.” I was told by a tech a little over a year ago that the fin in my R1T does not have a satellite antenna but I suppose Rivian could add it in the new vehicles. Of course that raises the question as to what the monthly fee would be to get SXM through Rivian particularly if you are not interested in the other infotainment add ons Rivian offers.

Would be cool if we could upgrade the LTE board to 5G.

Service people often misunderstand technology.
How many times over the past years were people told by SC or sales advisors that CarPlay was coming s00n?

Add me to the list of folks who miss Sat Radio, I'd be happy with at least an app as streaming through the phone isn't user friendly when attempting to change stations. That being said I'd be happy with my second best option which is YouTube Music but alas, we don't get that either..............

Considering how long it took Tesla to add SiriusXM streaming, I don't expect us to get it in our Rivians for years.
Well well well....:giggle:
