And every one of those dumped Tesla's will be purchased by someone happy to get them at a discounted price.
I should certainly HOPE so, that is after all the entire point of selling early! It is my hope and expectation that in the best case someone will buy our used Model S instead of buying a new one. A pretty good runner-up prize is that we will have put one more EV on the road a few years earlier than it otherwise would have been. And, of course, we have helped to further depress resale prices, which is also a good thing. Moreover, people who know we had the Tesla ask us why we sold it and we get an opportunity to explain that the brand and its CEO no longer aligns with our values and that buying a Tesla is destructive to our democracy. This is also a positive sign and it carries considerably more weight when you are willing to eat an economic consequence to do it. But even if it did no good other that to disaffiliate us from the brand and get us into an awesome R1S two years sooner, it would have been well worth it.

I'm not a Tesla fan but seems silly to me to base your car choice on current events and politics. Elon was this crazy for a while so not really an excuse for abandoning now.

Also the nut jobs attacking Tesla cars are all sorts of unhinged, these were the people who wanted ev's to save the planet and now torching them due to politics. How is that really helping their goal of a more sustainable planet?
Ironically it's working in that conservative EV haters are now buying Tesla just to piss off Dems. Talk about reverse psychology. Absolutely not condoning vandalism but pointing out the unintended consequences.

I know a handful of wealthy oligarch-class MAGA have been doing performative purchases to demonstrate loyalty to President Musk but hard to imagine this happening in any meaningful volume to offset catastrophic sales volume losses in every market around the world.

It would be interesting to observe the results if Tesla temporarily slashed Model 3 and Model Y prices by $10K. Getting a brand new 2025 Model 3 for $25K might help someone um.. "put aside" their political beliefs for just a split second ;)

It could happen....

Counterpoint.. at the right price every vehicle sells, and the people getting the great deals on the "dumped/discounted" Tesla's will be the new loyal Tesla customers of the future who will purchase second vehicles, need repairs, etc. Loose one/gain one...
Not really how that works

Keep dreaming.
are you actually attempting to rationalize that people trading in their Tesla in large numbers is actually good for the company? Lol

People still read the huff post? I assumed everyone knew it became just a clickbait/ragebait site years ago

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
FWIW the finance gal @ Genesis told my wife, while signing for the lease on her GV60, that she took in 3 Teslas on trade that single day.

It's happening. The result will be either dropping prices, or a buildup of used inventory.

Maybe they can throw in a carton of eggs or two to make the deals more attractive. ?

"large numbers"? yeah, not good.. but when your brand has a typically low trade-in rate even a small increase in volume can have a large impact on growth percentages. We will have to wait and see if this is an actual trend or just fast lived bump that everyone will forget by Christmas.

Well, that will be determined in part by actions of the CEO. If he continues down this path, I only see things getting worse for Tesla.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hear what you’re saying, but my wife and I have been directly affected by Elon’s recklessness. Many now-former employees I shared my building with lost their jobs and their livelihood solely due to politics, not because of their performance on the job. It’s impossible to separate the two when you witness the consequences of Elon’s actions firsthand. I just paid more to charge at an EA yesterday instead of a Supercharger (and yes, I know the profit margin for Tesla is only like 10% so it’s definitely hurting me more than them).
