I mean I think the Lightning looks like an awesome truck. I love my R1T and I chose it over the Lightning and the Silverado EV I had on reservation because it fits what I want to do with a truck more. My family likes to go camping, I like to fly fish, I need to occasionally haul or tow objects, etc. A Lightning is probably a better work truck. Its bigger on the inside (I think) which is great if you're driving with people and dogs. Its got an awesome frunk and onboard power, a better bed. A Lightning can be had for less than a Rivian, even if that gap IS closing. Ford also has a huge dealer network for repairs, and F150 parts outside of the EV drivetrain are the definition of commodity, so repairs and such should be easier and cheaper. Additionally, think of how incredible the aftermarket accessory scene is for the F150. If you're a contractor or have a very specific bed-mounted rack need or something, you're 100% going to have it available for an F150. There's not much out there for the Rivian yet. This is a big consideration for a lot of people who rely on their trucks for work or routine activities.
MT gave Rivian truck of the year last year. I dont think its a slight to the R1T that the Lightning won this year. If anything, I think its an endorsement of how great electrified trucks are.
