So, I received my R1S back after getting insurance repairs for a deer collision done at Certified Rivian Repair shop. In the process they installed a new hood, but photos from the shop that were sent to insurance for coverage show some bondo repair on the new hood that they installed. Shouldn't new parts from a Certified shop be New and not have damage needing repair?
Thoughts on this?

Their new hood could have been pulled off a previously salvaged vehicle.

Also the possibility that they ordered the new hood, and presuming they are painting to color match, that they first paint a guide coat which would highlight any possible imperfections, and they are simply correcting those before priming and painting with the final coats.

Why not just ask them?

That looks like a new hood with the protective EDP type coating that is applied to body parts to protect against corrosion. Not sure what they call the coating for aluminum parts, but its the same idea, since Aluminum needs protection from corrosion just like steel. New body panels almost always need some kind of body work to fit properly and it also could have come with a small ding, that was tapped out. Instead of waiting weeks for another panel, they can repair it properly and use a "guide" coat to make sure everything is level and smooth before primer. I would get away from grouping all body fillers as "Bondo", because every million dollar show car uses a "guide" coat, but should not have "Bondo".

I'd call and ask if the hood was new... if they say yes, then let it be.

I've been having issues with the certified body shop in my area...

Some pretty big dirt nibs left in every panel they painted, holograms everywhere, some weird paint splotch on a panel they didn't paint, overspray everywhere, and two spots of some weird residue that got stuck on my car.

Not to mention whoever washed it swirled up all of the paint and gloss black trim. Oh, and a defect on one of the panels they painted too... the list is never ending with this place.

Rivian has been great in trying to get all of this resolved, but it's been dragging on and on, and my truck still isn't fixed.

Seems almost no one has any pride in their work anymore, which is probably driven by their own management making it a numbers game and not a quality game.
