Just swapped the wheels out on my R1S. Unfortunately, in the flurry of guiding the tire shop through opening the jack covers, using the jack pucks, and popping on the hub centric rings for the other wheels, I forgot the double check that I put the vehicle in all-terrain/highest (was in all-purpose/standard). The wheel swap went smoothly, but is there any chance of damage from not setting the drive mode before raising the vehicle?

Thanks!

That’s a lot of stuff to think about… I literally told my shop to just put it in tire change mode in the service menu and they got it done.

what even are hub centric rings? And where does it say you should go to highest setting?

Shop wasn't experienced with Rivians, so I oversaw the process. Hub centric rings were just for the wheels I swapped to (the classic RAM 2363). It actually says to put it in all-terrain/highest right under the tire change mode toggle, it just slipped my mind to double check the drive mode.

Yeah I definitely hadn’t done this either and my car has been driving normally. I don’t assume that recommendation is for functionality but more for safety. But let’s have someone with more knowledge chime in.

That was my first impression - get the wheels up all the way to minimize how far they travel when jacking them up. But yeah, certainly appreciate other weigh-ins on this in case I'm missing something.

This document may help you the next time...I'm probably going to add photos of the Jack Pucks in place to it at my next rotation to make sure it's VERY clear how they are to be used. I've seen enough photos on this forum of the pucks being used incorrectly to frighten me.

Updated document a couple of posts down...

I always wondered about the Go to Off Road mode and put the Rivian in the Highest setting part. Wouldn't that raise the truck making jacking harder?

Yikes, making me worried about my jack puck use. First time using them myself - figured you just popped off the cover, popped the puck into the exposed port, and jacked from there. Hoping I didn't screw anything up with them.

No - I'm sure you were fine, but that's why I wanted pictures in my document (which I print and leave in the case with my jack pucks). The issue seems to be that they put the point of the jack pucks into bolt holes rather than popping the covers and putting the pucks in the correct place.

Here's a recent thread: Another Discount Tire Victim

Since it's been on my list to do it anyway, I went out and took some photos to update my tire rotation document now. An updated version is attached if anyone wants it.

Note to self: Don't open the rear liftgate if the Rivian is in Highest mode because you'll have to manually stop it to keep it from hitting the top of the garage door opening

It does seem counter-intuitive, but it is a safety thing to keep the wheels from changing position while the vehicle is on the lift. In the highest setting they can't drop unexpectedly because they're already as low as they go.

im another Discount Tire (@Discount Tire) victim. it might vary from location to location but i will never be going to DT again. I went to the one in Kirkland, WA. i'll endure the wait times and go to Rivian from now on.
@dleewla - Thank you for the link to your post. I couldn't find it again, but it was your post that inspired me to do the document and keep a printed copy with my jack pucks. My local tire place is great, but it's not always the same people working when I go in for a rotation so I thought the document would make it easier for them - they seemed to appreciate it. I figure anything I can do to make it easier for them will help ensure that they do it correctly.

I went to Mavis Discount Tire, which is similar to Discount Tire. To avoid all the potential for problems, I literally told them to not use pucks at all and do it the old school way: I’ve had them remove the four covers below the frame rails and jack it up at the jack points on the frame directly. This is also highlighted in the Rivian tire change guide under the section “jacking the vehicle without Rivian specific equipment”.

My DT experience is quite the opposite. I had my other car in for new tyres and asked the manager about rotating tyres on a Rivian. He knew exactly what to do. I took my R1 in and luckily he was there and knew exactly what to do. It's unfortunate but it seems that DT is a store-by-store basis experience.

100% like everything else. I've been lucky at the one in my area the manager has been there for over a decade.
