I had to replace the original 20” tires at 21,740 miles. I should have gone back to Rivian as I have had all services completed which include “CHECKING THE TIRES AND ROTATING THEM”. Instead of waiting for the 22,500 mile check up, I had it at 19,000 miles as I was going out of the country and wanted to make sure all was in order. On my return, I commented to my brother that my tires looked worn and should I be replacing them. He confirmed and I checked to see what Rivian offered (same Pirelli tires which I did not want. I selected tires with Discount tire which is a vendor that is listed as a recommended alternative and had the tires replaced with Michelin Defenders. Immediate reduction in the noise. I scheduled an alignment with Rivian which took 3 weeks or so for the appointment. Onde my tires were at the 7500 miles range I made an appointment and to have them rotated at Discount Tire. Tech pointed out that all 4 tires were worn down on the inside indicating a need for an alignment OR a suspension issue. Made another appointment with Rivian. Again 2-3 weeks for an opening.

Initial response from tech was “ I should have had them align the vehicle”. Responded that they did. Then I should have gotten the tires at Rivian. Responded I went to a vendor listed on the Rivian website that is trained to and has the equipment for tire replacement with an approved tire. Was then advised to come back that week and leave the vehicle as it probably was a suspension issue and they had to replace parts. 5 days later I receive a text that it is not an alignment issue that it is a BAD ALIGNMENT issue and they would give me a discount on tires charging for only 2 tires and giving me a FREE alignment. MY car has now had 3 sets of tires in 30,000 miles. Tech stated he was not authorized to approve a full set or any compensation. Paid and sent a request for full reimbursement from Rivian. I have not had a response yet. ANYONE else have this issue?

Yup: can’t get alignment locally due to probs with needing to reset something in the software - I replaced front set of tires on both Rivians @ 10ish thousand miles and got them (Rivian) to at least comp the alignment.

Were the original tires worn flat and even across the tread?
Did you get a print out on the original alignment after replacing the tires?

I will request a print out. The Rivian receipts for service only had a notation on the first on at 7500 miles as to the thread depth. The other 3 did not.

Original Pirells replaced on my 23 quad model T at 31 K. Was told I needed an alignment by my Les Schwab so I drove to Rivian SC in Richmond, BC and had that done. Now at 37K, I have had one free rotation and I am driving on quieter Les Schwab tires.

That’s weird. I used my local tire shop to align both my R1T and R1S without any issues whatsoever. OEM alignment was terrible. Tires last at least twice as long (or longer) now.

I've heard it's around $200 bucks for Rivian to do it, but I'm trying to remember which post here I saw that on....

I've been trying to find a local place that will do it, as my local Discount Tire (where I have my tire rotations done) does not do alignments...

Have you checked the tire wear? Pulling can be an alignment issue but if the tire wear looks good it could be something else. An example is if a brake caliber is dragging it can cause that behavior.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I got really frustrated with alignments at the Service Center and my local shop. I ended up buying a 3D printer to create a string alignment jig and did it myself. It’s not for the faint of heart by any means, but I can spend as much time as necessary on it and confirm settings pretty easily now. Cured my pulling issues and drives so much better. I can use the RIDE menu to keep an eye on steering wheel angle being dead center and to calculate caster angle with repeatable results. The tough part is ride height variability. Cycling through ride height and settling at standard is pretty consistent, but I notice ride height at the corners can be all over the place when checking after a drive. It impacts toe and camber ever so slightly. I found setting toe and camber towards the minimum end of tolerance gave me the best feel on the road as the suspension constantly adjusts.

I’ll be replacing my original 21” Pirellis after 24k miles this month with Michelins. Time will tell if my psychosis will pay off!

Question, why not the Hankooks instead of the Michelins? My feeling is they nudged out the Michelin in a couple areas, but what do you think?

I have had great luck with Michelins on other vehicles and just prefer them. I put a set of Hankooks on my Tundra and regretted it for years. Admittedly it’s a n+1 but tires are too expensive and last too long (except on Rivians!) for me to take another chance.
