Rivian has actually recommended to not use conserve mode on extended trips. Only when you really need to conserve battery. You end up decoupling the rear motors from the axle and all of the weight is put on the 2 front wheels. Hence the uneven wear.

This was reiterated in State of Charge's recent review.

If all the weight is moving to your front wheels in conserve mode, you have an extremely serious problem!

Couple thoughts:

1) OEM Tires - My teslas all had continentals. I’d take pirelli over continental any day.

2) Not sure why the Dual Motor has the same tires if FWD will wear them out dramatically faster. Just don’t think that’s the case. Maybe it is.

3) Conserve gives me about 35 more miles of projected range. If it’s the difference between me having to stop at a charger and me getting to my vacation spot, then charging, I am taking conserve.

4) EV tires are expensive. Period. My M3 also “ate” tires but it was worth it for the ride!

You have a great choice of much cheaper tires if you have 20" wheels. You do not need an EV tire, just a tire with an accepted load rating (116).

Once more Dual motor R1s are out in the wild, I'll be curious to see how their tire wear compares to the Quads...as they won't have a choice when it comes to Conserve mode.

On my 20s, it's about a 30 mile improvement to run a full charge in Conserve vs. All Purpose. To me, that seems like a lot of additional wear & tear on the front motors and tires for little extra gain -- unless you are stretching the range in a charging wasteland.

I also use Auto ride height most of the time as I presume that's what the engineers ultimately designed the truck to run in. I do know that the lowest setting is like riding on a jackhammer on these great California freeways.

On my 2017 Model X, I have 'range mode' that biases the rear over the front and I use it for road trips. Not sure what is going on with the Rivan, but I do not seem to have excess tire wear on front vs rear.

Note that any acceleration and the front immediately "kicks in."

Maybe a tire wear setting is needed to be created. You select that setting and the computer controls the stop, go slow and regen. ?

I finally got my tread depth tool and found somewhat even tread depth all the way around. Maybe just a touch lower in front.

I'm around 3500 miles and average about 8.5 (/32nds) all around. That is obviously substantial but probably almost a third of that is towing a medium weight trailer during hot months.

At least a little good news is that I'm not seeing any crazy uneven wear between inside and outside. And I use low, and sometimes even lowest, whenever I'm on the highway (probably 3/4 of all miles).

I think this is the key point and this is how it works on dual motor Rivian. They actually developed from scratch a connect/disconnect module that can do this very efficiently (~ like in Model X).

Unfortunately, in conserve mode on 4 motors Rivian will permanently disconnect
the rear motors, and all acceleration and regen will be handled by the front wheels.
You need to manually switch to another mode to re-engage the rear motors.

And this is what causes more wear on front tires...
