We have a R1T that we picked up last week. It has the performance duals and the max battery pack. The biggest problem that I have to date is that it has a significant TORQUE STEERING issue. Under much acceleration it pulls left and right and needs constant correction. Are others experiencing this problem? If so, is there any resolution? Rivian service has yet to respond after 6 days.

Otherwise, we love the truck nearly as much as we love our Tesla S. It tows our 27ft Airstream great up to 190-200 miles with a charge.!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Take a look at car mode screen and see if it is using both motors when you see this effect. If it is only using the front one try either reducing stability control or putting it in sport mode to force it to use the rear. Maybe there is an issue with the rear motor.

I find that driving in the mountains the car under steers badly when going into corners with only front Regen. This being non aggressive driving. I don't know why it doesn't use both motors as it Regens so much better that way and handles flatter. It's a heavy car.

I am in all purpose mode with both motors running. It consistently pulls right and then left with pretty aggressive correction required when accelerating at half throttle or more. I haven't even tried single motor mode to see if torque steer goes away, but I will. This must not be the case for all dual performance configuration or there would more customer complaints. Hopefully there's a ready fix or explanation.

Still waiting for Rivian Service to respond.

Thanks for your input.

Does the truck pull left or right when driving on flat roads? Also, does the steering wheel seem off to the left or right when your tracking straight?

It could be an alignment issue. Lots of folks had that...myself included. Truck needed a good alignment after delivery.

I know the quad motor can have some torque steer when your launching it but it shouldn't be pulling.

Are you in sport mode and the lowest suspension setting?

At least on my R1S, aggressive driving feels really bad outside of sport/lowest. Higher suspension settings increase the camber which reduces stability when driving aggressively. That isn't a bug, it is an inherent consequence of raising the suspension.

Also/in addition to checking the mode and height settings you might want to get your alignment checked. A lot of people have had vehicles delivered with poor alignments and at times it has taken Rivian multiple attempts to fix it.

You're getting torque steer left AND right??? During the same moments of acceleration?

I think you’re intentionally trying to misunderstand. The extra ? are the give away.

Since the software update last week, my R1T Dual Motor Performance is much more prone to torque steer to the left AND the right when accelerating . No, not at the same time.

Perhaps it’s the more responsive throttle mapping in All Purpose mode.

Standard height? I’d also check tire pressures.

It may have gotten worse since the upgrade. It does go away with the sport mode. Otherwise, the way it is now, it reminds me of a 1989 Ford Taurus that I had which had the worst torque steer that I have ever driven. It may be unique to the performance duals, since I can't believe that thousands of customers don't complain about it. Thanks for your response!

Do the Performance Dual Motors have half-shafts that are different lengths on the left vs. the right?

I just got a 2024 R1T Dual Motor and have some torque steering issues as well. It pulls a bit right under moderate to heavy throttle but the real noticeable part is under full regen braking it pulls pretty decent to the left requiring counter steering. I just got it back from service and they said it just needed an alignment. But, picked it up and it is still doing the same thing. The 2023 Quad Motor loaner I had did not have this issue at all. Side note, after driving the Quad Motor and then going back to the Dual Motor I really miss the Quad Motor. lol

We have a 2025 R1S Dual Motor and it does not have this issue either. I suspect that there is still an issue with the alignment like there is too much positive caster or something like that. Under straight driving it tracks straight. But it feels like it fights harder than usual to get back to center after steering input which leads me think too much caster. I'm going to find a good alignment person and have them check it for me.

***Update***
As suggested in here I set the Stability setting to Reduced which for some reason turns off the front wheel drive mode. This pretty much eliminated the issue for me. Hope this works for you as well.

Just took delivery of a 2025 Performance Dual Motor Max with 22" Sport Dark wheels at 56xxx VIN and I am having the same issue. When accelerating the car pulls noticeably to the right in All Purpose default settings. I haven't done a ton of testing in the other modes. I did a soft/hard reset which did not solve anything. Reducing stability doesn't fully solve it for me.

This is extremely frustrating and I am hoping it's an easy fix.

I suspect it's the lag in the system reconnecting the rear motor and then sending power to it. Before that happens, the truck is FWD only. If you stab the throttle in AP mode, it might torque steer initially until the rear hooks up. If it continues to torque steer, perhaps the rear motor isn't reconnecting for some reason. There is at least a graphic on the suspension screen that should show power going to the rear wheels after you demand more power.

If you put the truck in sport mode or if you set stability to "reduced" in AP mode, the truck will not disconnect the rear motor.

After more than 3 months since delivery of our R1T, Performance Duals, Max we took it into the Portland Service Center. The Torque Steer issue that we were experiencing has almost away with a full alignment. It must have arrived grossly out of alignment.

The service center was great to work with and tried to resolve all issues quickly. I just wish that we able schedule the first service quicker than 90 days. Love our Rivian!!
