Not sure if this has been posted before but after a quick search I wan not able to find another cargo carrier /towing mode related thread.

Recently we went on our first camping trip here in SoCal. I used a GearDeck enclosed cargo carrier that requires to use the R1S/R1T electrical plug for the carrier Stop/Turn lights to work.

The R1S/R1T turns towing mode ON when it detects an electrical connection into the vehicles towing electrical connector and automatically disables :
1. Adaptive Cruise Control
2. Driver+ features like highway assist, lane keeping, etc.
3. Automatic ride height adjustment

It is very inconvenient losing and not having the option to enable ACC and Driver+ when using a cargo carrier especially while driving on the highway!

Hope @Rivian can address this issue in a future OTA update.

It's been discussed regarding similar devices that have lighting, such as some bike carriers, etc. It is being worked on, according to Wassym Bensaid at Rivian on Reddit.

Worth noting that there is still some ambiguity in that. A solution for some people may be the brake light accessory they have already announced, supposedly coming in 2023 (for example here), but this might not cover every use case.

It's also possible they will update the software to override the limitations from plugging something in to the trailer port.

Honestly I hope they do both.

Can't you decline "Towing Mode" when the pop-up comes up on the GUI?

I haven't plugged my boat trailer in for a couple of weeks.. But I recall seeing a "Cancel" option under the "Towing Mode" popup?

I tried once but didn’t give me the option to cancel. I didn’t spend too much time dealing with it and I just unplugged the electrical connector on my way back.
