Oh, I knew where the calculus was coming from. It's just interesting seeing it in action.Yesterday it was -35 Celsius (Or -31 F for you crazy Americans). I drove my Model Y 296kms on the highway. I left at 100% fully preconditioned, arrived at the midway charging spot with 10% battery left after only driving 140kms. Had to charge for 1hr to have enough juice to complete the trip. Yeah, we need the Max pack.
I have made a similar point to Rivian about their RAN map. They have a spot in Fargo, and on in Sioux falls. That's 244 miles with a speed limit of 80 headed due south. Things I have trouble seeing you be able to do with the large pack Rivian:
1. drive 80+ for 244 miles non-stop with a typical SD/ND wind in the summer.
2. Driving somewhat slower in the winter when it's 15 degrees, wind is blowing north/south, and the road sucks for 244 miles. Really need to have chargers every ~100 miles.
