I missed the added context you’ve provided with this post. I agree, if you’re worried about paying a couple thousand to the government you shouldn’t have an 80k dollar car let alone upgrade one.And I’ll reiterate my point here… if you are so pressed for funds that you would rather err to give the government an interest free $5K loan than risk owing $1-2k then you definitely shouldn’t be considering a $5K vanity upgrade for an $80K+ car.
I’ve gladly written the government a penalty-free check 9 out of the last 10 years (exception was a year I both got married and switched jobs mid-year so paid FICA taxes twice). I’ll take the 4.25% interest on the funds for myself, pays for the full year of Connect+ and a few months of Spotify.
