Captain's Log - March 13th, 2025

It has now been three days since the fateful news of the update reached my ears. Here I rest in the solitude of my quarters, weighed down by a melancholy that seems to seep into the very timbers of this old vessel. My weary hands still grasp the helm with the same resolve, yet I find myself longing for the capabilities that elude me, trapped in the confines of outdated technology reversing with regular pointing mirrors.

As I gaze into the foggy horizon, I am reminded of the days when innovation was at our fingertips, and the thrill of adventure filled the sails. My ship bears no modifications beyond the original craftsmanship; her wheels and tires remain as steadfast as the crew who has served alongside me. Yet, I cannot shake the sorrow that envelops me, for I know the marvels I am missing—the little joys that come from the treasures found upon the wheels and tires dashboard.

Tomorrow, I shall embark on spring break, stepping into the belly of an airborne beast, yearning for the chance to bring my ship into the modern age. Until then, I dwell in this despondency, my spirit slowly fading like the sunset beyond the waves.

I’m going to impatiently speculate that they paused the rollout due to some vehicles that got bricked during update, plus bugs, being reported on reddit:

ofc they will probably push to another 25% right after I post this, so going to post this anyways.
People love to speculate it was paused... data shows waves generally start 12 to 2 PM Pacific Time. Just be patient.

There are (indeed) less Gen2 in the queue compared to Gen1

They've paused and released patch-fixes in the past. It does seem like this rollout is slower than previous ones but it could be due to Enhanced Highway Assist. Nothing currently indicates its paused.

People will hop on here at 9 AM and go "ITS PAUSED!!!" .... resumes 2 hours later.

I work on the other side of the desk in the IT world so I very much understand the pacing of the upgrades. It's like "Helpdesk is getting flooded with stupid questions!, pause the update for a bit until volume goes down" :p

2 days & still no prompt to get this update.
Questioned it through the app (yes 2.200) & was offered a mobile service, earliest a month away of of 9th April.
I had spent over $500 to rebuild my at home WiFi so that this vehicle could ‘see‘ my WiFi network.
Yet daily I work internationally on computers & servers in the US & abroad, from the very same fibre that feeds that WiFi.
If we are paying for a, ‘Software Defined Vehicle’, they‘re clearly not competent.
Apple & so many other manufacturers have been doing this for years.
Our lives & homes are increasingly dependent & defined by so many web connected devices as part of ‘Smart Homes’, that update & almost look after themselves. Even my irrigation messages me to suggest a rain delay.
If I can sleep & my computers, iPhones, iPads, laptops, home security, WiFi, irrigation, speakers, HVAC can all update, why does it take until mid April for someone to turn up (& doubtless do a, ‘Power Cycle’), for this $100K iPad with wheels to update?
Apologies am losing patience with the promise (at such an extremity of cost), when the reality is so lacking.
I guess you never owned a Garmin. They do updates in batches as well. You'll get it eventually. If two weeks goes by and still nothing, get heated then, not now. You'll also see a traffic spike on your network before the update notification on your phone/car.

Paying for the feeling of exclusivity or early access has become common in our revenue driven and immediacy focused society;
  • Fastpass at theme parks
  • Expresslanes on highways
  • VIP access passes at events
  • Clear at airports

It's probably a bit of a miss by Rivian to include this as a benefit as it will always have delays and as many have said, it will eventually come with or without subscription.

Like someone posted the willy Wonka reference: "But I want it now!"

Without transparency into the process people are right to question it, especially for a paid benefit.

With that said, I do find it interesting how eager people are.

Thanks! I really appreciate the stats. Would you consider adding an automatic tracker for new subscribers (number and time stamp), so that we can better understand any changes to the software availability and download percentages. For example an increase in % may reflect the beginning of another batch release, when in fact a new subscriber just signed up on your website and connected their vehicle (that has already been updated).

Again, sorry if this has already been addressed, I just recently joined and haven’t read through all the previous software release comments. And I guess it gets tedious when you want to provide a 10,000 foot view, then subscribers want more…but, it may make it unmanageable since different subscribers value different content

With that said, I do find it interesting how eager people are.
Is there proof that Rivian is not prioritizing connect + memberships? Also, I consider firmware priority a fringe benefit of the membership. I don’t feel that it’s something that I am paying for. Basically it’s the cellular service that’s being paid for in my opinion.

Have you seen them stagger by generation yet? Looks like a few minutes ago they just rolled out another wave to Gen 1 only, but not Gen 2.

TBH I forgot that was supposed to be a benefit of connect+ until somebody on here reminded me that it's a thing. But the problem is when the majority of owners have connect+, it's not really a priority anymore since everyone is at the same priority level as you

I think this is a red herring because there are just fewer Gen 2 right now.
