What does "manual compatible" tonneau mean?

So I went with an R1T that was available which the only difference from the one I was going to order was the manual tonneau. Does anything have info on what "manual compatible" means? Does this mean I will be able to get one once they are available? I want to make sure I will be able to get one as this would be a deal breaker.

If it's compatible, then it has a slot either side of the bed, running the length of it. Unless your order sheet says you have a manual cover already on order, then you would have to buy it separately once available on the gear shop.

If it has the rails along the bed sides the powered tonneau would use, you can use the manual cover. There were rumors at some point Rivian planned to make “no tonneau” beds that don’t have the rails but I don’t think that has happened.

Great. Thank you. I think like a lot of folks, I would much prefer to have the powered and hope at some point I could get one.

My Guide confirmed what others are saying last week. Also told me if I buy on R1 Shop do let her know, she can add the tonneau cover to the purchase and will ship when ready. None of the trucks in R1 Shop have the cover but are compatible, for now anyway.

There are mixed answers to the question of whether a powered tonneau can be retrofitted. Some people have been told it is possible and others told it won’t be. I tend to believe it won’t be, but I would love to be wrong on that.

I’m just hoping to get the manual one before a trip in June. Didn’t think it would take this long for a manual one to come out. Guess I’ll have to start looking into a DIY solution soon.
