does anyone know if we use our phones as a hotspot and have the wifi from the R1 connect, would that provide all the connected functionality as if we had the native LTE enabled on the vehicle?

I don’t think anyone here knows but logic tells me they won’t allow that because that would be a runaround to their revenue stream, similar to allowing CP/AA. There's nothing in it for them.

Apparently only when it's in park. I remember reading a post on Reddit, which has since been deleted, where someone exported their truck to another country and Rivian turned off their LTE plan. A few people in the same post mentioned that wifi gets disabled while driving, so you won't be able to keep connectivity from your phone, but Rivian can easily enable that through a software update. Apparently Tesla was the same way at first.

As someone whose LTE wasn’t working for about 2 weeks, it seems you lose:
- any streaming service
- all app connectivity when not home, so no temperature setting, no venting windows, etc
- no arrive SoC estimate from native nav
- no highway assist
- no live Traffic

and as others noted, Wi-Fi turns off when not in park, so no tethering

effectively, you have a traditional car, but still a great electric truck, without lte

This sadly confirms my fears. We are all going to be hostage to an LTE subscription.

...no I'm not trying to start a CP/AA debate..
...They better tread lightly here. There is enormous opportunity to reap ill will amongst the customer base when all of this hits the fan.
...boy will it suck to have to pay for ANOTHER data plan just to listen to Spotify when I'd rather be listening to (and seeing on a screen) Apple Music via my phone.
Other than Tesla, what other manufacturer is denying CP/AA and forcing its users to pay for LTE to stream content? That's the rub.
Not trying to start another screen projection thread, eh?

No I’m not. But I wholeheartedly believe that that Rivian’s decision to not add it is rooted in revenue as opposed to this lame “vertical integration” or “Control the experience” nonsense. It’s money. It’s always money.
And unless you drive a Rivian, does it really matter to you?

If they want to charge me for data - they can pay for all their data too. They won't get free access to my home wifi anymore.
This.

By the way, has anyone really figured out what our vehicles upload to the mothership everyday? Seems like a lot of data!
