1. Due to flagging R1 sales, they have decided to start production of R2 T & S in Normal at the end of this year.

2. R2T will have the choice of a 4.5 or 6ft bed along with integrated rack mounts for full length lumber / canoe / etc. loads.

3. R2s will have 6 dynamic buttons/knobs that works things from A/C/Heat to volume and tuner. (DREAMY.)

Slightly sleeker, rounder body lines but easily identifiable as a sibling of the R1. It won't match the roof rack patent drawing, lol. My thoughts below are based on lowered cost of assembly, not my preferences.

Basics :
300-400 hp dual motor, higher hp as a performance model
363 mile range
heat pump
Traditional suspension (no air or active hydraulics)
one piece liftgate (no tailgate)
smaller or no moonroof/sunroof
simpler interior design
Fewer and smaller interior UI screens, perhaps one short/wide screen from driver to center
Same basic UI including Alexa, etc.
Two windshield wipers
19" to 21" wheel options

Drop:
Automated air vents
Most or all gear guard stuff
Flashlight
First Aid Kit
Wood Trim
Interior "Limo" lighting
Camp Speaker
Camp Kitchen (oh, snap....)

Add:
Usable interior grab handles

Options (if Rivian actually gets to an optioned production process):
Air Compressor
Moonroof/Sunroof/T Top/Removable top
120/240 VAC inverter

Specific Will Nots:
Not bulletproof
Not capable of infinite towing mass
Not capable of crossing seas
Not announced at $39k and then sell for twice as much when shipping

Design: Ends up being a sport wagon type vehicle that competes with the Subaru buyer.

Features: 1-removable seats or interchangeable configuration of seats and storage options behind the driver. 2-v2v charging capability. 3- sharks with laser beams anti theft mode ?

also, instead of a camp speaker, it has a storable Rivian camp chair…

2) All mechanical suspension (probably a strut-based with lower A-arm)
I don't think this will be the case, because of how much Rivian invested in development of the hydraulic system and the flexibility that it allows for changing driving dynamics between on road and offroad. I do think they will drop the air suspension, but I'd honestly be fine with just the current hydraulic system with a fixed height at "standard."

3 R2 variants. 1. A Bronco Sport sized boxy SUV. 2. A Pickup slotted into the Maverick sector. 3. A Fastback sleek SUV in the Rangle Rover Evoque sector. First out of the gate should be the Bronco Sport competitor at $59k for dual motor AWD and $49k for single motor rear wheel drive. All 300 miles+ range battery size rating. And then perhaps even a $45k variant with a smaller 240 mile battery pack.

I think it is going to be essentially a Ford Bronco if Rivian were to make one. Without naming every specific option, I'm thinking:
  • Traditional independent suspension with off road capabilities
  • A bigger mix of traditional and new tech. So, more hard buttons, solid roof, etc, but with the same large screen, instrument cluster, alexa, app, etc screen in front
  • heat pump
  • smaller of course, two rows
  • No carplay/AA, give it up people, if you are still dying on this hill, maybe Rivian isn't for you
  • Dual motor, maybe a single motor option
  • Bare bones (cloth, plastic, etc) model with option model (leather, wood, etc)
  • Gotta keep the 300 mile range I think

THERE ARE SO MANY BRONCOS AND MAVERICKS out there, if they can pull it off to be a competitor with that (Bronco for SUV, Maverick for the pickup) and nail the price they will crush it IMO.

We're more likely to see a 4 row R1S that matches the R1T wheelbase.

My predictions:

1. More modular design than the typical SUV/CUV that allows them to keep the base price down but allows for optional add-ons. Key design element is attachment points for various after-market accessories. Think Honda Element but even better such as removable seats, hatch and frunk accessories, coolers, integrated tent/vestibule etc.

2. V2H ability at launch.

3. Single motor and 250mi range at lower price range.

4. They'll keep the glass roof I believe. My guess is that glass roof is probably easier to assemble than traditional roof with headliner. It might be even cheaper to manufacture because you also save on paint in addition to the lack of headliner. I have no idea. Just guessing.

Rivian copies Tesla. That's their MO. Expect a lot of Model 3/Model Y cost reductions in the R2. LFP batteries will figure prominently.

It will have:
-800V charging architecture
-Native NACS port
-Heat pump
-Fixed glass roof
-Accessory dock in center console that will come standard with a lockable drawer. It will also support an optional camp speaker and other TBA upcoming accessories.
-Roof rack ports compatible with existing roof rails
-Flashlight port in door, but the flashlight will be optional
-Sirius XM satellite receiver
-A RWD option
-An LFP battery option
-3200 pound towing capacity

It will NOT have:
-Air suspension or adaptive dampers
-Built-in air compressor
-A substantial frunk
-Rear infotainment screen
-Motorized vent in front or back controls'
-A third row

Less likely features
-Electrochromic roof
-Head-up display
-Matrix headlights
-Locking differentials

From a “preserve the Rivian spirit” point of view, I think the R2 should have:

- Fast charging capability, eg 800v
- True range greater than 300 miles
- Able to go off-roading and successfully perform basic rock crawls (as a benchmark).
- 120V outlets
- Comfortable for 4, capable of 5, people with good storage
- 120v outlets
- Air compressor (for ability to off road and inflate tires)
- Top-line acceleration in 3.5s 0-60 range

Basically, if R2 can deliver Jeep Rubicon off-road specs + everyday comfort at a $50-60K price point, I think it’ll do very well.

Here are my guesses. Apologies if these are duplicates of other folks.

  • One battery size only (at least to start) ~ 325 Mile Range
  • FWD single motor: $49,999 (0-60 of 5.5 sec)
  • AWD Dual motor: $57,999 (0-60 of 4.5 sec)
  • AWD Dual Performance: $62,999 (0-60 of 4.0 sec)
  • Smaller stadium lights, thinner light bar across the front
  • No air suspension option
  • Multiple off-road models to pick from (like Bronco) that will increase tire size, clearance, "ruggedness" etc
  • No truck at launch, just R2S
  • Whole boatload of planned accessories, but we'll see if they ever materialize
    • Custom frunk fridge
    • Built-in Winch
  • Hope it looks like a Defender that's gotten the Rivian treatment.

This, I feel like it'll be an SUV that competes in the Subaru space, where Rivian is already popular; Colorado, Washington, etc.

I think this will be an SUV only, no truck. My reasoning is the value prop for a cheaper small EV truck isn't there with the current pricing. A Maverick-sized truck, for $50k is a hard sell when Mavericks are going for $30k. In this bracket, the price is a bigger deal, and that $20k is hard to makeup in value.

A 1200hp 6x6 with 800 mile range that charges from 10-80% in 2 minutes... And has a burrito warming drawer under the center console
