The power port I gave you is the same spot as the factory 12v.cig plug. It'll go on off with the normal interior accessory power.

Don't use obdii for a ham radio.

Fuse 28 I think... Left kick panel under driver. You'll have to make a fuse tap as the type rivian uses is exotic, but some trimming with pliers is all that's needed.

I used 15 amps because it's what's I had, but I think you could do 20.

Thanks. Agree. The transmitter wants 15 amps for full power. I've been "not letting well enough alone" for five decades so I have an ample junk box with various fuses and connectors. 20 amp fuses are installed in F46, F51, and F54 seem to be dedicated to a "12 volt port". I think two of those go to the "missing" dash and frunk ports.

Damn fine adventure vehicle but not designed for efficient field repairs. ?

Oh this is cool! These are new to me, but I think the concept.

I am one of the lucky few that has 12V sockets so I haven't been as compelled to get as creative as others here.

Good luck with your project. Interested to hear about what radio you install.
If all goes well, a Yaesu FT-2980 with a Larsen glass mount antenna.

The one for my missing frunk port had a fuse. The one for missing dash did not. In any case, it's > 15 amp, and your duty cycle is low, so I think that radio will be fine.

I’m a ham - amateur extra. I’d be curious how much qrm the vehicle generates.

Honestly though, I haven’t bothered with installing a 2m/440 in my last few vehicles. My 2 cents is that if you’re actually trying to maintain comms in remote areas, an inreach or sat phone is a way better solution.
