They didn’t drive an R1T with tank turn. They did minimal background research on an R1T and then added a reference to tank turn in their article, based on something they saw online.

Really, aside from it being more of party trick, I couldn't see a situation where a trail is so narrow that I can't attempt a turn around, but I'm good with doing a 180 into the heaps of things I'm trying to avoid by not doing the 20 point turn in the first place.

I do want to do donuts in the snow and mud tho!

You were never promised "tank turn". That was a conceptual feature that never made it to production and was killed even before the configurator opened up in Nov 2020. Like every other vehicle ever, the pre-release advertising shows a pre-production model that contains features and design elements not available on production models, or not available in the US, etc. etc. That's what all those disclaimers say at the bottom of your TV screen.

I personally don't visit sites like that where they just scrape old info off the internet and present it as their own "content".

Pop the inverter case open and flip the polarity of one side of the motors front and back.

I can easily name multiple trails in Colorado where the trail is too narrow for even a tank turn. This would be very useful in off roading around here. The switchbacks on Black Bear trail (and many others) would be super easy with tank turn.

So I'd be happy to have it, but I also don't think we'll be getting it. I agree with many others that it's too much wear and tear on the drivetrain and would be misused in a away that is very damaging to trails.

Instead I'll be happy if Rivian's off road mode locks up the inner rear wheel on turns so the radius can be reduced. This too would be very useful on switchbacks.
