Whistling over 60mph with recirculate mode on

My R1S started making a high pitched whistling sound when driving over 60mph after getting the car back from the SC. Taped up every gap from the trunk to the front driver and passenger doors and windows to try to find where it was coming from without any luck. Was about to give up but then noticed that the sound was gone when I turned off recirculate mode. I'm guessing the problem has to do with a bad seal when the car closes air flow from the outside. They did service the HVAC while it was at the SC for another issue and probably did not reassemble properly.

If any of you are experience whistling, you may have the same issue.

I have to try this. I’ve been going crazy with the whistling over 50mph that just gets worse and worse the faster the truck goes. I’ve tried taping everything as well with no resolve. I was beginning to think it was for whole front door seals but i will definitely try turning off the recirculate.

Hopefully that’ll be the issue. It was driving me crazy also.

Same here. It's raining and weather dropped and noticed that car is quiet again! Idk if mine is solely recirculation mode or just ac...

Whatever it is it's somehow tied to the HVAC system at least in my case.

Yes! Confirmed I have the same issue. Whistling stops when I switch ac to fresh air. Which ironically then causes the compressor to ramp up to jet speed. I expect compressor issue to improve when Florida heat and humidity subsides a bit. Waiting to make a service appt to see if anyone can get it fixed first..

Has anyone had this recirculation whistling issue fixed successfully by their service center?

The South San Francisco SC didn’t fix mine and the issue still exists. I’m going to re-submit the issue to the San Jose SC.

I’m a bit annoyed. But if anyone has had this issue fixed, I’d appreciate being able to relay the tech’s notes to my service center.

Funny, mine did that today when I switched recirculate off. It turned out the passenger window was ever so slightly open. Window up, problem solved.

Any update from the service center on this? Anyone able to get this repaired by them? I have the same exact issue.

One possible reason why the sound stops when taken off of recirculation setting is that the pressure inside the cabin changes by having the outside air come in.

In other words, the air leak that's causing the whistle sound does not come inside the cabin because the pressure difference is less.

If the whistling sound is always there regardless of speed, including when stopped, then it probably is something in the HVAC system.
