Every single manufacturer, excluding start-ups that have not delivered consumer orders en mass, has subscription based services. Every. Single. One. I have worked on marketing for various subscription-based services for three marques.

Don't want to play? Then don't pay to play.
Quit whining like a child.
I generally agree, but those manufacturers also don’t charge for Apple Music or Spotify access. There are a few items in Connect + that surprise me are subscription based.

I guess I’ll just have to sacrifice a 6-pack each month to have this now with a net zero ? but seriously - all good in paying for features but it does open up the expectation of it working as it should etc. now more so? Touch wood, so far so good for me!

Hold up - you can use Apple Music with a tethered phone . . . Unless I am wrong.
Yep. I was just pointing out that, with other manufacturers, there is a free, AM or Spotify app... You will still need your own AM or Spotify plan, but you do not have to pay to connect via your car to those services.

I agree with Spotify, but I've never heard of anyone having to pay for AM.

I am pretty sure AM has been free on every car since they came up with the idea of putting speakers in cars

This is exactly what Rivian is doing. The app is free. Connect+ just gives you access to stream it via LTE. Tether the truck to your own phone and you still get to use the Spotify app for free.

Patiently waiting to hear from the OP what car they owned with free connectivity. Jeep, Audi, Chevy and Tesla all charge for this (in my personal experience). Chevy and Jeep were way more expensive.

Every vehicle I've owned or rented in last 10 years has had free connection with music, and Rivian wants to add a $15/mo nuisance charge for this? I've owned my R1T for 2 months now and am seriously disappointed in how they do business, they will not build Tesla like loyalty with this kind of BS
Uh, Tesla charges, albeit less but they do charge for the premium connectivity. Last I checked it was $99 for the year

Well that’s not quite true. Because in the other cars, you can just step in the car and steam via something like CarPlay or AA without tethering per se. It’s all auto connected. I think that’s why some people get surprised with the Rivian setup.

But I get your point.

So 10 years ago you owned an all electric pickup with 835hp and a wireless hotspot? Impressive.

Rivian was kind enough to spell ALL of this out from day 1, saying in-vehicle subscriptions were coming. It was mentioned in their IPO and talked about endlessly here for the last 4-5 years.

Stop with the fake outrage and do some research before you buy a vehicle. You aren’t required to purchase Connect+.

We're onboard for the hot spot and the YouTube. The other stuff may be nice to play with. We have been so impressed with Opal (our R1T) that we want to do all of the technocratic stuff that she will be capable of. At 42 cents a day, We want Opal to doo all that she can do.

It’s called the free market capitalist economic system. Companies sell products and services that they think people will want/need, and they make money doing so if enough people do purchase. Profit is a good thing.

You do have the right to complain even if, as others have pointed out, you haven’t done really really really basic research, or haven’t simply become one with the fact that you have the choice to buy or not buy.

We in turn have the right to call you on the princess-and-the-pea-like whingeyness of your post.

Free market capitalism and freedom of speech - them there’s some pretty good shit!!

Also they should have made it easier to allow us to put in our own SIM card. I talked to the Rivian after sales rep he mentioned they use AT&T. I have an extra line free on T-Mobile which I could use. Now it's have a Krave an extra phone in case I don't want to use mine.
And where’s the gol durn pizza oven???!!!

This guy is a troll, granted. But what does horsepower have to do with anything? And Rivian hasn’t done anything out of “kindness” lol. What Koolaid is in the fridge? They do everything because they are required to by law.
Uhhhh, errrrr, one thinks that COdogman was creating an abstract picture with his reply, and one thinks thereby that he did a damn good job illustrating the absurdity of the original princess-and-the-pea-like, whingey post.
