For the life of me I can't see why Rivian has buried the odometer and trips in the About Menu recently?

I think such info should be on dashboard ... Hard to do a trip without trip info....best would be for this to be an option the same
as tire pressure or efficiency gauge.

Absolutely! To do a quick calculation of a location some distance out you usually quickly glance down, pick up the odometer reading and add the distance to it in your head. This is accomplished while your eyes are on the road. With the Rivian, you first look off axis to the center screen, you must now change your focus to the screen to find the settings. Moving your hand to the right will automatically want you to drift the vehicle in that direction. You now find about, press it, and now you can get an odometer reading with which you can do the addition of your distance number. The important part is : this entire time your eyes have NOT been on the road. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed ASAP.

Maybe they expected the Nav to be better and you would want to use it on every trip :) Save the mental math and let the onboard computer do it.

But seriously I agree, I rarely use nav in past vehicles and just glance at the odometer as I pass road signs and do quick mental math to plan stops or exits.

Plus I am a data nerd so each time I plug in I record odometer and charge% and they are on different screens, so it's a more tedious process than I want but with lack of access to decent data set of charging history I have to build my own;

AND when I got my tires rotated at Discount Tire.. they recorded ???? for the mileage because they didn't want to dig and find it (I did confirm they A) had pucks and B) had serviced previous Rivians with no issues)

How do you know the distance to the location? All interstate highways have mile markers (and it's actually really good to keep track of them in case something happens and you need emergency services). Personally I'm rarely looking at the trip meter or odometer but I'm willing to believe other people have a different system that they've figured out over the years. My method allows me to not have to look anywhere but through the windshield.

The point of showing trip data is that it also saves on mi/kWh as it acts as a goal to look forward (gamification)

I agree 100% especially as I keep track of charging to calculate my actual cost of the vehicle on a per mile basis. Digging into the menu each time is annoying. Granted now I typically just check on my phone but I would like to see it on my dash like every other vehicle.

So dumb! And under “settings”! Last I checked, my odometer is not something I can “set”!

Easier to check total mileage in the app. They might as well just put the trip meter in there, as well, since it's so dang hard to find in the vehicle. ?

Stop thinking of your Rivian as a vehicle and more of a computer device that happens to also be a vehicle. Then the location is logically consistant with other types of software.

NO! Don't give Rivian any more ideas - I don't want to press CTL-ALT-DEL to unlock the vehicle!!!!

What bugs me the following:

No trip graph that shows the projected efficiency during your route versus what you're actually getting. I used this on my Tesla a lot during trips.

The energy usage in the dash doesn't take into consideration the mode you're in. It just shows under or over a fixed line that doesn't change based on the mode, but the mode determines the estimate on miles left.

There is no automatic trip meter for your current drive or since the last time you charged like what Tesla has.

I rarely look at the odometer. In fact I don't really need to see that. :)

Despite whatever complaints I have about my Rivian I sure do put the miles on. Haha.

Yeah I also don't get the reason for needing to view the trip and odometer all the time. Road trips in my ICE car, the odometer was hidden due to cruise control. And I only used the trip meter to calculate MPG when I was filling up. On my recent 2200 mile road trip with the R1T I didn't look at the trip meter or odometer once.
