I'll make a thread here about the rack later this week. I'm waiting to hear back from a company to see if they want to produce it. In the meantime there is a thread with more description and pics on Rivian Stories.

That'd be great if they made a towing override for this scenario. It's not my ideal solution to run a wire from the trailer hitch to the top of the rack, but it'd be OK.

That's exactly what I did but it triggers the tow mode and interferes with some of the truck's sensor features. The zero contact module should avoid this problem as it pulls from the battery directly. This needs to get straightened out as many will have need of aux lights in the rear due to load configuration. You can't just splice in a wire here and there.
Ahh bummer.

Just walked up the hill after loading the truck onto the carrier bound for Cleveland SC. I hooked up the trailer connector near the hitch, so they can see the gremlins caused when it wants to go to tow mode. If nothing else, it will bring to their attention that people will want additional lighting from time to time. Best case, would be in the next OTA they isolate that circuit and give us the ability to add lighting without the ill effects now present. I will let everyone know what they say.

Do you have a thread about this rack anywhere? Would love to learn more!

FWIW I have the same towing mode problem with my bike rack which has a brake light. I raised in a Reddit AMA with their VP of software engineering and he seemed receptive to adding a towing mode override for this scenario:
They should just have an "are you sure?" type prompt about tow mode when something's plugged in that isn't a trailer...seems so simple, but maybe software people don't use hitch mount racks and the like :giggle:

It does. Even if you aren't in tow mode it still disables stuff because it still thinks you have a trailer.

Boo. But sort of makes sense?
For something like a hitch rack you'd want the rear sensors disabled, to avoid all the false positives.

Blind spot monitoring gets disabled too, which is my chief complaint with it.

Presumably those sensors are in/near the tail lights as on most other vehicles.

They should leverage those more. Ram uses them to gauge trailer length.

I believe Ford keeps the BSM and may even cover the trailer with it, too... So I think Rivian should be able to iterate on this, over time.

Their initial release was a minimum-viable, conservative implementation.

Decided to try a totally different approach, light pipes. I got a couple of pieces of acrylic and am going to try and "redirect" the lights to below the rack crossbars. Would still prefer and electric solution, but I gave up on figuring out the wiring.

Does anyone know if the tailgate is prevented from dropping if you are towing? I want to make sure I don't inadvertently ding the tailgate if it gets "released" onto the hitch/trailer pokey parts.

If it doesn't prevent that - sounds like a feature request!

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone resolved a good way to wire that third brake light?

I'm facing a similar situation, but looking to power my license plate lights, which have been relocated to a swing arm rack.
