Don’t you guys just pay your insurance deductible and have it replaced that way? That’s how us Canadians do it.

I’ll do that once in a while. Insurance companies will raise rates or drop you all together if you cost them too much money. In the long run, raised rates will cost significantly more than the windshield.

Oh ok. Ya here in bc you must get your basic insurance from icbc. You have no choice. Anything above basic can be shipped around. It’s kind of dumb.

I am with you... I have owned my Tesla for 6 years and nothing... My Rivian already has a rock chip in the windshield...I remember a few rocks hitting, but nothing serious so I was surprised to find the chip.

My model 3 got a huge rock chip less than 1 month after ownership. We fixed and filled it - no issues since!

Freaking socialists... I envy you. Ironically in FL and SC, conservative states, they're required to replace windshields at no cost and it can't hurt your insurance. Granted, rates are higher there for a lot of other reasons too.

Rivian customer support called me after putting in a ticket for my windshield, they said to talk to my insurance and give them the information for a Rivian Certified Collision Center. If USAA won't do the collision center, then get an appointment for Rivian to do it and file a reimbursement claim.

my R1T has been at the service center waiting on a windshield since Wednesday. On Thursday, I got my new R1S. Well, today the windshield in the R1S cracked!!!!!

I think Rivian has a really big issue. In my 30 years of driving and my wife’s 30 years of driving, we have replaced exactly one windshield (R1T) and now have a second one.

I hope everyone reports their chipped and broken windshields to Rivian. I kinda see a total recall coming. And I was worried about them nickel and dining is on a subscription. They can just gouge us on windshields ($1,900)!

My windshield cracked without any impact. The service technician came out and said it is covered by warranty as it is clear that there is no rock chip or any sign of impact. It literally just cracked while I was driving. I got a call from service center and was told that the warranty does not cover glass. The warranty says glass is not covered unless there is defect in material or workmanship. He would not budge. I am going to take this up the chain since I believe this has to be caused by material defect or workmanship.

Any suggestions or thoughts on what could have caused the windshield to crack without impact?

windshields might be taking the place of oil changes relative to maintenance...

I just had to replace my Jeep windshield - fortunately it was under $200. If it were $1900, I'd be upset.

Ask the service center manager to show you the rock impact that caused the crack. If he can't find it.. it's covered under warranty.

Regrettably just joined this club. 200K+ miles on other cars the last few years and nothing but a minor chip but in 150 miles I drove this morning got a 5” crack at the top of the passenger side and a big chip lower drivers side.

Looks like Safelite is now doing Rivians but there is a disclaimer that you still have to visit a Rivian SC after for calibration for the camera etc. Anyone have experience with Safelite or another third party and having to do a calibration after?

My opinion is that Rivian, and others for that matter, have tried to reduce overall vehicle weight by making glass thinner/lighter. Saves a few pounds at the expense of lower quality/durability.

My wife's 2016 X3 windshield was replaced once so far, after two stone cracks. It now has two more stone cracks in the replaced windshield, total of 100k miles. Conversely, my Avalanche with 160k miles on it has one "bullseye" chip in it, never replaced. We drive very similar routes, so the only real difference is the glass quality...?

Looks like I joined the windshield chip club on day one of ownership.

I heard two small strikes on the drive from home from OC to SF yesterday. Didn’t see the chips until my daughter pointed one out this evening.

Ordered a couple of repair kits. Fingers crossed that the chips don’t spread before I can fill them.

I hear USAA has this, but can't do it online. Has anyone successfully added it to their USAA insurance? It's been getting sunnier here and I miss my ceramic liner, but I know the day I get that installed is the day I'm moving on to windshield #3...

You know, I didn’t even think of that and I’m getting the windshield tinted soon.. but I don’t think they’d cover tint.
