Some limitations but it is pretty cool. Audio and hvac commands I tried worked... I'm in a 2022 so I think that probably answers any concerns anout compatibility. Not laggy, pretty responsive if it's a command it understands. Takes longer if it doesn't know what I'm asking.

How do you force an update?

Weird. My car in service won't tell me if it has the update because it says it's in service.

Yeah oddly I got a notification saying the software was updated. App shows 2025.15.0 software and still in service mode

The message says to allow 70 minutes. In my 2025 Gen2 it took 35 minutes to complete the update process. Add a couple minutes to reboot.

Large Charge Marge got it early this afternoon. It’s pretty cool! “Hey, Rivian. Next“ skips to the next song in an Apple Music playlist. (Marge is Gen 1.)

She won’t vent windows while driving (“safety concerns”).

I thought you meant there was a way to force a software update to the Rivian.

thank you. I do have a connect subscription. But that wording, "to all compatible owners" just didn't seem very clear to me. ...since I have a 2023 VIN and all the updates for the last year apply mostly for gen2s... you just never know.

I suspect some R1's are blacklisted due to salvage title, attempted jailbreak, whatever reason. There have been threads on this forum where people bought salvaged R1's and then ran into a lot of push back from Rivian not wanting to help them rebuild. That's my guess, just a legal catch-all for any R1 they don't want to send the update to for whatever reason, not a technological incompatibility.

You can also swipe down from the App Updates screen and any app with an update will appear.

The story says the below, so I wonder if there's some capability coming for us non-Connect+ folks at some point?:

Connected experiences that require the cloud, including the full capabilities of Rivian Assistant, are in English only and available to Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners subscribed to Connect+ or within a trial period.

Not at the moment, some folks with early access have mentioned that a lite version that doesn't need Connect+ might come in the future.

You can advance the song with the buttons on the steering wheel. Voice helps prevent having to go into the main screen which is distracting - the steering wheel buttons are not distracting.

I'm sure you can ask it "can you turn on the Steering Wheel Heater?"

But, what I really want is a "Can you you turn on the Steering Wheel Heater on every drive from now on?"

Where it remembers my command for every session.

Just finished installing here and like it a lot. Imagine all the tweaks they will add over the next months based on feedback.

For your steering wheel question, someone on reddit reported they could make routines. So you could make a start my winter drive" routine and it could turn on the heated seats, steering wheel, and rear defroster or something. The poster has it opening the garage door and texting his wife when he says "I'm home." In another it sends a text with an ETA from the nav so you could make a "leaving work" one that would text your arrival time.

I'm looking forward to routine for picking up my teenagers at practices . I'll tell it I'm about to get to the school and it can text them I'm in the parking lot

Does it understand "Hey Rivian, open the frunk?"

Or do you still need to call it a trunk, like with Alexa?

Editing to add: got update, tested. It does appear to recognize "frunk".
