Read all 19 pages! Funny stuff, especially all the noise about paint color pricing!

> LE Pricing is attractive, goal is to get you to buy now, not wait on RAP1 and LIDAR. End of 2026, no more LE is my bet (as soon as those other features come online). Premium with all features will be more $ than LE one day soon.
> Value of R2 is strong. $60k LE is a brilliant package. No real competitors in the off-road boxy SUV space. (Jeep Recon is a joke, 230mi range $68k, further out)
> Paint pricing is not a deal breaker, look at total cost. If that's too high, you aren't the target market.
> iX3 isn't a direct competitor, no more than an X3 is a direct competitor to a 4Runner. They just happen to be releasing at the same time. (iX3, ioniq 5, Model Y, EV6, all swoopy hatch CUVs with low ground clearance)
> R2 in person is stunning! I sat in one at Palo Alto space, line wrapped around building, huge public interest, interior door handles do NOT squeak!
> Love the 20" wheels! (but I want 3-peak, dang it!)
> After seeing Catalina Cove in person, wife is thinking of going White paint (her typical preference)

So the 20" AT tire option for the R2 won't be 3PMS rated? That's unfortunate. I wanted a tire option that would be decent in snow without going for a dedicated snow tire.
As noted by others, the current 20" AT tires shown on the R2 don't carry the 3PMS mark. The question is what are the differences between the OE version and the retail version with 3PMS. Does the OE version have the same tread pattern, but just less tread depth, or is it more complex like a different compound or tread pattern.

My guess? Maybe just less tread depth for a lighter tire to help initial ownership range and performance perceptions and provide a lower cost to Rivian and any other OEM that fits them at the factory.

Me as well, snow tires are required where I am

I personally agree with you but millions of people don't. Rivian doesn't either. If they only sell to people who actually want a high-clearance SUV they won't hit their numbers.

Wait, are they really launching the R2 with the same 21” tire size that no one wanted on their R1 as the default option? 🤦‍♂️

No, it is a 21” rim but different tire profile than the R1 uses.

I doubt they changed tooling, so tread depth is probably the same. My guess is that the rubber compound may be simpler/cheaper--which is likely to affect cold-weather traction. My R2 will spend a lot of time in Colorado and Minnesota, and I would love to find out that winter performance is decent.

They have a single paint line but use a state of the art paint system that uses cartridges. There is a video out there somewhere talking about it. They can paint each vehicle a different color with no need to purge anything. I think they said the vehicles only need to be 3 meters or so apart.
So there's no reason why an R2 couldn't easily be painted in R1's Red Canyon? Or share any others colors between them?

I am on the list and I don't care the slightest bit about going off road. You're sorely mistaken if you think it's the off road capability or ground clearance that most people are shopping for. That's just a niche market and will always remain that way. Rivian wants to capture Model Y sales so they can be a profitable company. I think it was a mistake not going 800V or even better, cutting prices by another 3-4k because the EX60 and iX3 are definitely tempting me because for just a little bit more you can get 20 kwh more battery and a 800V architecture as well as features like a dimming sunroof and carplay (I need my youtube music) and you don't have to explain what your car is, everyone knows BMW and Volvo. Plus dealers mean you can get discounts unlike with Rivian or Tesla making the price gap even less.

I love explaining what my truck is.

My favorite question is: "who makes Rivian?" When I say "Rivian", they just look at me with a blank stare.

And then they almost always ask "where is it made?" When I tell them "Illinois!! Made in the USA by Americans!!!" they smile. It's great.

And then I add that it is 100% battery powered and I get another blank stare. :CWL:

Nobody ever asked me about my Mercedes, or my Jeep. Yawn.

I'd personally pay more to never have to set foot in a dealership ever again. Elon may be crazy but the ownership experience in a non-dealership setting is heavenly. Meanwhile, our local Mercedes dealership continues to try to screw us every. single. time. I guess there are plenty of stupid rich people who don't look at their bills.

In our case this applies to leases, but we've used a broker for the last few and it was amazing. Not only did we get a preset deal (that was stellar), but almost no dealer engagement. For the last two rides, maybe 10 minutes of dealer communication (via email) combined. The one dealer that required a notarized document, the broker even set up a notary to come to our house.

They also facilitated the transport services, with both vehicles delivered to our door* :)

About $600-700 for each vehicle (different brokers), but we saved $20K+ and zero hassle.

I know this isn't so much Rivian specific, but more just an FYI, there are options (and I totally agree about dealers).

* Well, the driver's were a touch concerned about trees, roads, etc., so technically we met them down at the Publix about 2 miles south, they have a huge service road, great for vehicle deliveries.

Has anyone done the "upload your current lease" workflow yet?

I was wondering what that looked like. If I'm understanding the prompt, it appears they're looking at your maturity date / outstanding payments for scheduling your order availability.

I was thinking about uploading the Jeep lease, it's done this Sep, might give us some breathing room as we're still not 100% sure what we want to do (the iX lease is through Apr '27).

You can pay someone else a few hundred bucks to do the haggling for you if you're that averse. Personally I'll take less than an hour of haggling to save a few thousand, that's a nice hourly rate, but you can even outsource it through a broker.

I was talking about their service department. They tried to charge $500 in labor to install two cross bars and didn't tell us what it would cost (the job took less than 1 minute); they tried to charge us $1500 for a "no cost inspection"; they tried to charge us to remove the name and personal information of the previous owner (something they should have done when it was sold to them). The list is endless. I don't haggle. I just tell them no and they've never pushed back. It's like they just wait for people to complain and any who don't are super-profitable for them.
