Yeah, and then they'll say "Silver is the most popular color. People want more gray!" As a millennial, I am sick of gray.
. I will never order grey or gray.Sponsored

Rivian is cash flow negative. The R1 must generate cash for the business or Rivian will cease to exist. They are not "sketchy", they are making smart business decisions that are necessary for their survival.
And they created a car company from nothing. That is amazingly hard to do. They are a serious business making serious and fiscally sound business decisions. That is the opposite of "sketchy", IMO.
Rivian has been targeting certain price levels that are needed for them to sell enough to be cash flow positive. By providing a base version with a standard color they can meet those price targets and sell a lot of trucks to people who don't really care about the color. And hopefully it will be enough that the R2 generates cash and slows the bleeding. Wouldn't it be great if they actually became profitable?
Color pricing might not be what all the other brands are doing, but so what? If price is that important to you (and I understand if it is), then get the one that has no upcharges. If the color is really that important to you, then pay for it. Quite simple, and fair. If you don't think it is worth the cost, nobody is forcing you to pay for it.
And if price is that important to you, wait for the color you want to be available as a used vehicle. Buying new is one of the worst financial things you can do, so be patient, get what you want, and don't pay for new car depreciation. Simple and fair.
Good news it's much more light grey than white. If it was white like Tesla seats I'd be out. Light grey is awesome to me.

Coastal cloud interior white or light grey to your eye?
There's some blue in the image above?I would call it bluish grey. Looked very nice.
Not in that one, but in the one I posted. This is the R2 color board for Coastal Cloud. Looks different to the R1 board. There's some blue in the image above?
This could be an artifact of certain phones balancing whites more towards blue to try to make them feel more vibrant. Not in that one, but in the one I posted. This is the R2 color board for Coastal Cloud. Looks different to the R1 board.![]()
Yes except it looked exactly the same to my eyes and my wife’s.This could be an artifact of certain phones balancing whites more towards blue to try to make them feel more vibrant.
FYI, love the deep red....Sorry, I didn't mean my response to sound like it did.
My wife is with you. Her Jeep is a very dark gray. I think it looks great with the black wheels and other black accent parts on the truck. She thinks it looks like pavement and thinks it is dangerous because it blends in with the road.
So we wrapped it with a dark red vinyl. It looks great but I still really liked the color it used to be.

Seems odd R2 ‘Performance’ launches without a shade of red?FYI, love the deep red....
Did you show her the photo on your own phone, or did she look at it on hers? Does she have the same phone model with the same color settings as you do?Yes except it looked exactly the same to my eyes and my wife’s.
We were at an R2 Block Party in Miami. Took the photo and looked at the colors in person together.Did you show her the photo on your own phone, or did she look at it on hers? Does she have the same phone model with the same color settings as you do?
These are just a few factors in figuring out color reproduction on different devices, since several manufacturers use different color calibrations for different kinds of screens, not to mention the different color settings on devices themselves.
Technology is complex and really dumb at the same time.
Gotcha - thought you were going just based on someone else's photos! We were at an R2 Block Party in Miami. Took the photo and looked at the colors in person together.
This keeps baffling me. So many colors but no red? Specially on the high end one? I get we need mandatory grays, white and black but forest green could have waited since we have launch green as well. I mean, forest green is being released later anyway.Seems odd R2 ‘Performance’ launches without a shade of red?
Maybe Red Canyon or some other shade for MY28? That’s one reason I’ll wait for year 2.
Are we going to be fighting over the same unneccesary RedCanyon R1S Tri upgrade??This keeps baffling me. So many colors but no red? Specially on the high end one? Really hoping the red is around by the time the R2X rolls around.
I'll grab the shield and sword every time Red Canyon gets mentioned lolAre we going to be fighting over the same unneccesary RedCanyon R1S Tri upgrade??
