It was a good party. Really liked the R2. I’m thinking of getting Launch Green. What color are any of you thinking about?

No, these were just in Miami and then moved to Nashville.

Does anyone else think this is strange? They’re moving the same three prototypes around the country, but deliveries start in June. I guess it will be a super slow rollout? I thought they had “hundreds” of prototypes on the roads. Would those still be testing at this late stage and if not why not put them on display at each Rivian SC? It makes me wonder when they’ll actually have demo drives.

It makes me wonder when they’ll actually have demo drives.

Next month. I like the idea of the block party as it was a way to keep the hype machine and interest going while R2 started to roll off the line. They are likely moving just these three to four R2s around the country while they are getting ready to deploy full time demo vehicles to service centers and showrooms. These also weren't fully production vehicles as I recall, so they probably found it better to just keep moving these around than to have a production one accidently get damaged during transit or something. My guess anyway. I don't see this as a cause of concern as far as production, just Rivian being overly cautious with the R2 launch.

I don’t think this is strange at all.

Remember that all of these vehicles have ownership attached to them. They’re worth tens of thousands of dollars. It makes sense for the marketing folks to “own” a few prototypes for marketing purposes.

Prototypes are rarely perfect, which is why they make prototypes. A lot of the other prototypes are likely assigned to different engineering & testing purposes and those folks don’t want to worry about keeping them pristine and looking perfect.

For instance, the testing folks are *supposed* to beat up the cars a little bit and put years of customer-wear on a car in a few weeks. Turning around and using that car as a sales-demo would be rather unconventional. I don’t think it’s weird that these engineering mules and testing vehicles aren’t being shipped around the country to be put into showrooms.

After this, these valuable prototypes will probably be reconditioned and put to use ferrying the mobile service guys around — at least that’s my guess as to how the service guy who paired my gen1 keyfob ended up with the low-VIN R1T that he drove out to my house.

It's not just the show vehicles but also the R2 "support crew" that is travelling with them to run the event, answer questions, etc.

Was great to actually sit inside and feel the room and size difference to our T and compare vs the R1S the wife wanted. Now she’s sold on the size of the R2 which was harder to discern in the fall when they were here but roped off!

That frunk pic reminds me I need to take a measuring tape to my test drive along with dimensions of key things I put in the R1 frunks. Potentially living with the dramatic reduction in storage vs R1T is gonna be a key issue for me in the decision to downsize.
