In Denver you need a moon roof sun screen / shade. The car temp will be very high. Any after market product to buy?

Probably not for several months or longer.

I test drove an R2 yesterday. It was 95 and sunny when I drove and I was perfectly fine. I'm 6'5" so this was a big concern for me, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I'm waiting for email to order the R2. What did you think of the test drive? Is there a reflective coating in the roof glass to reduces the glare and heat transfer?

My test drive was at noon in 90F weather. I did not notice any radiating heat from the roof.
Great news. Can you still see all the screens properly with that much light entering the cabin? Must be new technology for the glass. My ridgeline sunroof, the heat radiates through it big time. If it is closed, I always have the shade cover closed.

It is likely going to filter 99% UV but won't reject that much heat. You'll want to to have it tinted with 55 or 70 film to reject IR (heat). I personally use a local XPEL dealer. Really not that expensive, usually $300-500 for the roof depending on your locale.

Great idea. Thank you. On a different post reply, Hansshow sells a removable shade screen. Could be PITA to deal with, though.

Yeah I would just find a good local tint dealer. I get the windows tinted on all my cars, notoriously Tesla's with a lot of glass too. Only need 55 or 70 film on the roof so you can still see out the top nicely. Still rejects a lot of heat vs nothing.

The R1 roof glass rejects a lot of heat. It's already tinted - it's not clear glass. The roof glass isn't the problem with the R1 - it's the huge windshield which lets in most of the heat.

It's not a clear glass roof on the R2 either. It was noticeable dark inside the R2 that I test drove. I've never had screen glare on my R1 except in rare situations where low angle sun enters the passenger window at just the right angle.

Can't speak to the R2 but I'm on my 4th Texas summer with my R1S and no heat (or glare) issues from the roof which is heavily tinted from the factory. I do have XPEL ceramic tint on windows all around, including the windshield, but haven't had any need to tint the roof even in 100+ temps.

2004 XC90 - just did 70 on windshield & front windows, 55 on sunroof.

70 has a lt. green hue, good for looking through it at dry land. 55 has lt. blue hue, good for looking through it at the sky. That's my plan for R2 when the time comes (thinking late-summer 2027 for MY28) unless something new & swanky drops for consideration.

"Tinted" does not always equal heat rejection though. Could just be privacy glass like on the rear passenger windows.

I thought it went very well. I was going in with high expectations and I was not disappointed. The Rivian rep gave me the key card and sent me on my way. I went mid-day so there was quite a bit of traffic Chicago area traffic so, I didn't go on the highway, but I took it on a few different types of roads and the ride was very comfortable (even in firm), yet responsive. The steering felt well weighted, but kind of numb. I left the Regen in low and thought it was good, but my friend drove one earlier in the day and he preferred high regen. Power was more than adequate and I drove 90% of the demo drive in all purpose.

There was more than enough room inside and it was easy to get a good seating position. I guess if I had a complaint it would be lack of lower thigh support, but being tall I'm okay with that. Visibility is good, although I felt the blind spot camera fees was a little small on the driver's display. The vertical was decent, but maybe they can expand the horizontal in a future OTA. The ventilated seats were amazing, and the climate inside was good even in the sun. The roof tint is pretty dark (I believe Rivian stated it blocks 99.5 0r 99.9% on the UV light coming in . I never felt like it was going to be an issue, and I found myself looking up a few times during the drive to see if it was cloudy (it wasn't).

To sum it up, I thought it was amazing and now I'm even more impatient than I was before!!!

The problem is that ceramic film absorbs all that heat. It doesn't reflect it or something. So it will heat up the glass MUCH more than it normally would, and lots of people have cracked or shattered their roof glass this way.

So probably a bad idea. Either use an external PPF, which will need to be replaced frequently, or a fabric shade.
