I'm waiting for email to order the R2. What did you think of the test drive? Is there a reflective coating in the roof glass to reduces the glare and heat transfer?I test drove an R2 yesterday. It was 95 and sunny when I drove and I was perfectly fine. I'm 6'5" so this was a big concern for me, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Great news. Can you still see all the screens properly with that much light entering the cabin? Must be new technology for the glass. My ridgeline sunroof, the heat radiates through it big time. If it is closed, I always have the shade cover closed. My test drive was at noon in 90F weather. I did not notice any radiating heat from the roof.
Great idea. Thank you. On a different post reply, Hansshow sells a removable shade screen. Could be PITA to deal with, though. It is likely going to filter 99% UV but won't reject that much heat. You'll want to to have it tinted with 55 or 70 film to reject IR (heat). I personally use a local XPEL dealer. Really not that expensive, usually $300-500 for the roof depending on your locale.

Yeah I would just find a good local tint dealer. I get the windows tinted on all my cars, notoriously Tesla's with a lot of glass too. Only need 55 or 70 film on the roof so you can still see out the top nicely. Still rejects a lot of heat vs nothing.Great idea. Thank you. The R1 roof glass rejects a lot of heat. It's already tinted - it's not clear glass. The roof glass isn't the problem with the R1 - it's the huge windshield which lets in most of the heat.It is likely going to filter 99% UV but won't reject that much heat.
It's not a clear glass roof on the R2 either. It was noticeable dark inside the R2 that I test drove. I've never had screen glare on my R1 except in rare situations where low angle sun enters the passenger window at just the right angle. Can you still see all the screens properly with that much light entering the cabin?
"Tinted" does not always equal heat rejection though. Could just be privacy glass like on the rear passenger windows. The R1 roof glass rejects a lot of heat. I thought it went very well. I was going in with high expectations and I was not disappointed. The Rivian rep gave me the key card and sent me on my way. I went mid-day so there was quite a bit of traffic Chicago area traffic so, I didn't go on the highway, but I took it on a few different types of roads and the ride was very comfortable (even in firm), yet responsive. The steering felt well weighted, but kind of numb. I left the Regen in low and thought it was good, but my friend drove one earlier in the day and he preferred high regen. Power was more than adequate and I drove 90% of the demo drive in all purpose.I'm waiting for email to order the R2. What did you think of the test drive? The problem is that ceramic film absorbs all that heat. It doesn't reflect it or something. So it will heat up the glass MUCH more than it normally would, and lots of people have cracked or shattered their roof glass this way.It is likely going to filter 99% UV but won't reject that much heat.
