the trend is very real and has been discussed online before as our world becomes bland “safe” color
So makes sense that R1 & R2 share black, white, silver, gray. But strange that R1 gets two shares of blue (Rivian and Storm) but R2 gets neither? Will be curious to see what comes/goes for MY28.

Apparently max 10 colors in paint shop - what gets killed off for Borealis?

Both - black, white, silver, HMG
R1 - red, Rblue, Sblue, Fgreen (+R2 soon)
R2 - cove, Lgreen
(+ Borealis?)

Sounds like red unfortunately unless they plan to wait for launch green to go away before offering it. Red already disappeared from the dual R1 options.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I'm calling BS on the 1980 photo. I'm old and was just beginning to drive then. There was a lot of brown vehicles the. When I say a lot. I mean A LOT!
I’m with you. I was a kid in the 80’s and I remember brown, copper, tan, black, and various shades of blue. My Dad bought my brother and I a used ‘89 Plymouth Horizon in 1994 that was gray.

There is some truth to the reduction in colors over the decades, but a parking lot in the 80’s did not look like a spilt bag of Skittles. 🤪

I did an image search for parking lots in the 80’s and here’s what came up.

Surprised by the % black since very few R1’s I have seen are black and from the order list over over 100 vehicles barely 2% are black.
I can't speak to the why of it all. But if I had to guess, black is a common fleet vehicle color, maybe that offsets some of the lack of personal black vehicle ownership?

Good old '80s, the year I got out of the USAF and my second daughter was born. First new car, Red Toyota. Second, Yellow VW. 3rd, Black Gremlin and was the car I was driving in 1972 when I went in the USAF. I won't keep going for fear of boring everyone.

They're bringing the Gremlin back but of course adding rear doors. It's called the R3X

I also think the take up rate will be lower on the R2 for the Midnight. On the R1, with that price point, you can swallow the additional cost. For $2k on the R2, that is premium color territory. Even if you abhor Catalina Cove and Borealis, I'd say you might as well get the HMG or Forest Green for cheaper. Or just take free silver altogether. Black cars are nice but maintenance to keep them clean is anything but premium.

My guess anyway.

Plymouth gang in the house! My first car was a 1983 Plymouth Turismo. It was black, but did have fancy red factory decals to boast about the 2.2 liter engine that delivered about 85 hp.

Sounds cool. I had a love/hate relationship with my Plymouth Horizon In large part because I had to share it with my brother. I read recently that it was actually based on the Chrysler Horizon out of Europe, which also went by other brand names like Talbot. Looks like they got some cooler colors over there, but look, there’s the copper color I was talking about! My Dad had a Datsun that color.

I feel like black is the least-seen R1 color (at least around where I live). I've only ever seen one or two of them and it is, by far, my least favorite color on R1.

As far as silver goes, it looks great. I remember being told in the 80s to avoid getting silver though as it was very hard to color match -- anyone know if that's still the case?

That's a beautiful silver color, and works so nice with the gunmetal wheels, the white light strip, can balance out either the black or light colored interior.

If I was buying I might just go silver, save a few bucks.

My S2K was silver (Silverstone Silver, named after the racing circuit in England) , one of my faves (especially with a red interior) :)

Every body shop always says whatever color you have is the hardest to match.
